The decision to postpone the North Carolina Baseball Museum’s Celebrity Golf Tournament from April 29 to Wednesday, May 13, cost a few commitments but the weather will be divine for the 24th annual fundraiser at Wedgewood Public Golf Course.

    Still expected to appear is former Hunt High and East Carolina University star Bryson Worrell, who made it all the way to the Atlanta Braves’ Triple-A franchise, the Gwinnett Stripers, before voluntarily retiring in 2024. He batted .299 and hit 40 home runs in his ECU career.

    Retired MLB scout Howard McCullough will also be on hand as well as former MLB pitchers Mike Caldwell and John Roper and former NFL player Howard Stevens.

    Retired Barton College men’s basketball head coach Ron Lievense along with current Bulldogs head coach Joel Zimmerman and Barton women’s head coach Eileen Van Horn will be present.

    The other celebs, local and beyond, include Ray Barger, Charles Bradshaw, Walter Claybrook, Alex Cheek, Allen Corbett, Lynn Daniell, Gary Farmer, Larry Fulghum, Brock Godwin, Lewis Godwin, Eddie Gwaltney, Clay Jordan, Kevin Lamm, Jamie Lee, \John McNeil, Paul Miller, Rick Richardson, Henry Trevathan Jr., Steve Vacendak, Brent Walston and Russell Williamson,

    Lunch provided by Parker’s Barbecue will precede the introduction of celebrities by the Wedgewood clubhouse with the captain’s choice superball tournament lifting off with a shotgun start at approximately 1 p.m. Before that will be the $1,000 winner-take-all ball drop raffle in which balls are purchased and dropped from bucket truck’s lift onto the Wedgewood driving range by a pre-determined target.

    The four main sponsors of the 24th Celebrity Golf Tournament are Baker’s Pro Construction, First Bank and Trust, Southern Bank and Wilson Housing Authority.
