Many winners of the online honors turned the ceremony’s tradition of five-word speeches into upbeat or inspiring bits.
At least one recipient melded politics and humor. “Formerly undocumented immigrant. Current winner,” Atsuko Okatsuka said for the best comedy category.
But Davidson had something a bit more downbeat in mind when he got his Special Achievement Award.
“Thanks. I’m still dead inside,” he said.
But still, the “Saturday Night Live” alum might have simply been mining laughs on the darker side Monday.
He seemed a tad more buoyant in an offstage interview.
Asked what he would advise his younger self, the comic replied: “Don’t be too hard on yourself.
