Kwame Appiah and Chelsea Griffin have broken up after four years of marriage, first meeting on Love Is Blind season four. The two shared the news in separate statements on May 15 on Instagram. “It’s heartbreaking to share that our marriage is coming to an end. This is not the outcome I hoped for, and I entered this relationship with deep love, commitment, and the intention of building a lasting life together,” Griffin wrote in the second slide. “As time went on, it became clear that we were growing in different directions. I poured my whole heart into this marriage and wanted it to work until the very end, but lasting marriages require more than love alone.” Appiah wrote a similar message, writing, “We’re eternally grateful for all the love, support and purpose we gained during our time together. As difficult as it’s been to arrive here, I believe it’s in our best interest considering amongst many other things, that our ultimate life goals don’t feel aligned.”
After getting married, Griffin joined the casting team of Love Is Blind, offering an angle where she can speak to potential cast members and share how the show worked for her. “I just don’t feel like I would’ve gotten the opportunity to be on Love is Blind if it wasn’t for an awesome casting team and process,” she told People in 2023. “I’ve always had the kind of passion for helping people. And after I went on the show I was like, ‘You know what? They were amazing and I really do think the show has really, really awesome potential for such great success, if it’s casted well.’ And I was like, ‘I kind of want to be a part of that.’”
Other Love Is Blind cast members shared their support for both Griffin and Appiah. “It’s been an honor getting to be friends with both of you,” Zack Goytowski, who was also on season four, commented. Taylor Krause from season seven added, “Y’all were such kind mentors to Garrett and I and will always be a special part of our love story. I really admire your grace during the toughest decision you have to make publicly.”
