Prince Harry gifted Meghan Markle a penguin statue on their eighth wedding anniversary.

The Duke of Sussex presented the Duchess of Sussex with a lemon elderflower cake, the same flavour that they had during their 2018 royal wedding, and a statue depicting two penguins standing arm in arm, with Meghan sharing the footage on social media.

Harry, 41, appeared in their kitchen wearing grey tracksuit bottoms from Roots and a blue polo shirt, serenading his wife with a rendition of “happy anniversary” while carrying the cake adorned with four candles.

The couple’s young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, could be heard joining in enthusiastically before shouting: “Blow it out!”

The duke helped blow out the candles, prompting Meghan to say, “I love you.”

The duchess also shared an image of her kissing Harry in their kitchen while holding the celebration cake.

The penguin statue held particular sentimental meaning for the couple, serving as a reminder of their engagement celebration.

When announcing their betrothal, Harry and Meghan hosted a party requiring all attendees to don animal onesies, with the couple themselves choosing penguin costumes.

Meghan was delighted as she unwrapped the gift, while Harry laughed in the background.

The accompanying card, addressed to “The one and only”, explained the significance of the penguin theme.

“We were penguins because we are together for life,” Meghan said upon reading the message, referencing the species’ reputation for monogamous partnerships.

She subsequently posted a selfie from that original engagement party showing the Sussexes in their matching costumes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex marked eight years of marriage on Tuesday, with Meghan sharing intimate footage on Instagram capturing their anniversary celebrations at home.

The couple exchanged vows at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on May 19, 2018, in a ceremony witnessed by approximately 1.9 billion viewers worldwide.

Celebrity guests, including Sir David Beckham, George Clooney and Oprah Winfrey, attended the nuptials.

Earlier on Tuesday, Meghan released a collection of never-before-seen photographs from their 2018 wedding day.

The images captured moments, including the newlyweds’ first dance at their evening reception held at Frogmore House, where they shared passionate kisses.

Notably absent from the wedding photographs were members of the Royal Family, with only a brief glimpse of King Charles visible from behind after he had escorted Meghan down the aisle.

Given the well-documented tensions between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales, this omission was unsurprising.

Instead, the images featured Sir Elton John, who performed at the celebration, and Isabel May, Meghan’s longstanding confidante.
