Large crowds gathered at the nearby South Quay Shed today in hope of getting a glimpse of the Oscar winner.

The 57-year-old is filming Hello and Paris, which also stars Kate Hudson and Steve Zahn.

The production has seen the harbour transformed into an American fish-and-farmers’ market, with stalls decorated with signs from across New York.

Part of The Harbour Garden restaurant and bar has also been transformed into an eatery called the Clam Shack, with menus and signs erected outside.

In one scene witnessed today, Bardem was seen strolling along the harbour before buying fish from a stall.

The film, directed by Elizabeth Chomko, is loosely based on the novel That Part Was True.

The new romantic comedy is said to follow a fiercely independent landscape architect and crisis-ridden bestselling novelist who begin a sparky transatlantic exchange over books and recipes.

Production crews have also been spotted in Whitstable’s Keams Yard and Harbour car parks, which have been closed off to the public.

Trailers are also parked up at the nearby Sainsbury’s store in Reeves Way, Chestfield.

It is believed the production will be in Whitstable until Friday.

KentOnline understands filming for Hello and Paris also took place at Camber Sands in East Sussex earlier this week.

Bardem is also known for his roles in the James Bond film Skyfall, F1, and the fifth instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

He married actress Penélope Cruz in 2010 and together they have two children.

The Spaniard is also starring in Dune Part Three, which is set for release later this year.

The production company has been contacted for comment.
