Cam Newton believes the Kansas City Chiefs may have another chance to turn a celebrity relationship into a major off-field advantage.
The former NFL quarterback has suggested that the buzz created by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce could be recreated through Stefon Diggs and Cardi B, if the Chiefs were ever able to bring Diggs into their offense.
Patrick Mahomes looks smooth on the golf course and Chiefs fans can’t wait for the NFL season
The Swift and Kelce relationship turned the Chiefs into more than a football team. It made them part of pop culture, television coverage, and social media conversation almost every week.
Newton appears to believe Diggs and Cardi B could bring a similar effect because both already attract attention far beyond sports.
“One man’s mishap, another man’s opportunity,” he said. “Andy Reid, brother, go out there and get Stefon.”
Newton wants Chiefs to target Diggs
Newton’s message was clear: he sees Diggs as the kind of player who could help Kansas City both on the field and in the wider entertainment conversation.
Diggs remains one of the NFL’s most recognisable receivers, while Cardi B brings the kind of celebrity profile that can turn any move into a national talking point.
That does not mean the Chiefs would make a decision based on fame alone.
Kansas City would need to believe Diggs can still help Patrick Mahomes and fit into Andy Reid’s system.
Chiefs know the power of celebrity attention
The Chiefs have already seen what happens when football and celebrity culture collide.
Kelce handled the attention around Swift while continuing to perform, which is why the pairing worked for Kansas City rather than becoming a major distraction.
Diggs and Cardi B would bring a different kind of spotlight, and probably a more unpredictable one.
Still, Newton’s point is not difficult to understand.
The Chiefs built one cultural wave through Swift and Kelce. He clearly thinks Diggs and Cardi B could create another, while also giving Mahomes another weapon.
