She said: “I just texted her back, saying, ‘What beautiful pictures and thank you so much for using my song’.”
The Duchess’ post also featured never-before-seen photos from her wedding day in May 2018.
She captioned the images: “Eight years ago today”.
Meanwhile, Abdul previously revealed that her mum was initially bemused by her ambitions in the music business.
The pop star recalled her mum, Lorraine, was “p***** off” about the idea of her launching a music career.
During an appearance on Shawn Stockman’s On That Note podcast, Abdul said: “I could hear her say, ‘I can’t believe she’s going to try and make a stupid album’. Had she not said that, the next thing wouldn’t have happened.”
According to Abdul, Lorraine’s assistant overheard their conversation about her landing a record deal and asked to submit a demo written by her boyfriend, “an aspiring songwriter [who’s] studying to be a nuclear physicist”.
She recalled: “Two days later, my mom calls me hysterically laughing on the phone, like crying laughing.
“She goes, ‘Paula, it’s the worst sounding piece of crap I’ve ever heard in my entire life … There are notes being sung that I’ve never even imagined that are even acknowledged or invented … It’s so bad.’”
The demo version of Straight Up – Abdul’s 1988 hit single – featured “this guy singing completely off-key”. But Abdul was convinced the song still had a “magical” element to it.
She said: “They’re laughing at me and looking at me like I’m the craziest person in the freaking world. And I’m laughing with them. I go, ‘I know it sounds awful … but I believe in it, and you guys believe in me’.”
