King Mohammed VI performed Eid al Adha prayers on Wednesday at the Ahl Fas Mosque in Rabat, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid and Prince Moulay Ahmed, as Morocco marked one of Islam’s most important religious holidays.

The royal procession departed from the Royal Palace toward the mosque in the Mechouar district, where crowds gathered to greet the monarch on the occasion of Eid al Adha, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

After the prayer, the Eid sermon focused on themes of sacrifice, solidarity and generosity associated with the holiday. The imam also offered prayers for the royal family and for the late kings Mohammed V and Hassan II.

Following the ceremony, ambassadors from several Muslim majority countries accredited in Morocco greeted the king and extended Eid wishes.

King Mohammed VI then performed the ritual sacrifice marking Eid al Adha, while ceremonial cannon fire echoed across Rabat in celebration of the holiday.

At the Royal Palace, the monarch received Eid greetings from senior state officials, including Head of government Aziz Akhannouch, parliamentary leaders, judicial officials and military figures.
