When the royal feud first exploded between Prince Harry and Prince William, Kate Middleton was often described as the hopeful peacemaker. Now, it seems that those efforts have long been abandoned.
Christopher Andersen, author of Kate!: The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen, believes that one particular comment irked the Princess of Wales and influenced the outcome of the rift.
“She would not give up,” the royal expert explained to Fox News Digital. “Even after Harry threw William under the bus in his memoir Spare, she was willing to keep trying. And the final break came.”

It seems that the Duke of Sussex’s May 2025 comments to the BBC were “hurtful” to both King Charles and Kate, who were battling cancer and thinking about “their own mortality.”
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious,” Harry told the BBC while noting that he did “not know how much longer my father has.”
Andersen claimed to Fox News Digital that the comment “ignited this firestorm of speculation about how sick the king really was at this point.” This was apparently the endpoint for Kate because “she wasn’t going to try anymore.” He also speculated, “As a matter of fact, I don’t think we’re ever going to see them make amends. At least it’s not on the horizon now.”
While Kensington Palace didn’t have anything to say about the allegations, Buckingham Palace told the media outlet, “We don’t comment on such books.” So, Andersen’s hot take on the royal family feud isn’t going to be confirmed or denied at this point.
When it comes to palace tensions, royalists love to place the blame squarely on Meghan Markle’s shoulders, but in Tina Brown’s 2023 book, The Palace Papers, she narrowed the feud down to William’s 2011 wedding to Kate.
“Though they were still incredibly close, living next door to each other [at Kensington Palace], sharing the same office, and hanging out a lot,” Brown wrote in her book. “[Harry] mourned his us-against-the-world bond with William. Harry felt displaced by their bougie family unit and couldn’t understand his brother’s obsession with his in-laws.”
Their relationship was never the same, and it became too easy for the British tabloids to blame the Duchess of Sussex for the fallout. At this point, the feud may never be resolved, with both sides remaining firmly planted in their corners.
