Being a parent is difficult, but being a parent and an actor comes with its own unique challenges, and Paul Rudd knows that first-hand.
The “Friendship” actor revealed he accidentally traumatized his son with one of his movies. “There’s one time I had done a ‘Reno 911’! movie,” he told Jake Shane on the “Therapuss” podcast. “My son, when he was really little, turned on the TV, and this ‘Reno 911!’ movie was on television, and it was right at a moment when Patton Oswalt is — it’s ridiculous — he’s shooting me with a machine gun. It’s bloody. And he saw me getting murdered, and he was a little kid, and it really traumatized him. He didn’t like it.”
Rudd explained that he’s never actually shown his kids his films, but they’ve found them in other ways. “It’s funny. I’ve never showed my kids any of the stuff,” he said before speaking directly to his teenage daughter, Darby. “But it was you. It was one time when you were little, a babysitter showed you.”
The babysitter had watched “Clueless” with Darby, which Rudd wasn’t thrilled about. “I was a little bummed out, I’ll be honest. I was like, ‘Wait a minute. Hold on. You can’t do that.’ She’s never seen anything I had done,’” he said.
Previously, Rudd recalled watching his arc on “Friends” with his daughter. “I hadn’t really revisited many of those episodes. But now that she’s watching it, it’s like, ‘Oh, I remember this,’ and I tell her some story about it,” he told People. “I’m far enough away from some things now that I can allow myself to be a little nostalgic about it. But then she’ll just be like, ‘Well, you’re not Joey [Matt LeBlanc].'”
