Two-time Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson suffered a stroke in late May and is currently receiving medical care in Atlanta, WSB-TV reported on May 31. The R&B icon’s current condition is unknown, but his family shared a statement with the network.

“At this time, the family requests privacy as they navigate this deeply personal moment together,” said the statement per the outlet. “The thoughts, prayers and love of friends and fans are welcomed and deeply appreciated.”
Those thoughts and prayers began quickly flooding in, with fans rushing to Bryson’s social media pages to share their love. “Praying for a speedy recovery and totally healed!” wrote one commenter on a pinned post on Bryson’s Instagram, while another added, “[prayer hands emoji href=”https://parade.com/living/emoji-meanings”] for the king!”
Celeb pals also shared their well-wishes, with Loni Love posting a photo of herself with the musician on her page and writing “Prayers for [Peabo Bryson]!” in the comments, Yvette Nicole Brown wrote, “Oh no! I love @peabobryson2 [heart emoji,]” and Nia Long added, “Love him!”

Bryson rose to fame in the 1970s after years working behind the scenes as a songwriter, producer, and arranger for Bang Records in Atlanta. He launched his solo career with the album Peabo in 1976 and had a string of hit songs including “Reaching for the Sky,” “Feel the Fire,” “I’m So into You,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.”
The musician earned many accolades over his five decades in music, especially surrounding some of his famous collaborations. In the early 1990s he released two beloved Disney soundtrack duets: “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dionand “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle. He won a Grammy Award and an Oscar Award for each.

In his career, Bryson has released more than 20 albums, earned multiple Grammy nominations, and remains one of the most successful and enduring male vocalists in R&B and adult contemporary music today.
Bryson is married to English R&B group The 411 singer Tanya Boniface, with whom he shares an 8-year-old son named Kitt. He also has an adult daughter from a previous relationship.
