Sydney Sweeney has landed her next lead role in a horror movie, which aims to be a “bold reimagining” of a classic gothic horror story. Deadline reports that the Euphoria star has signed on to Lindsay Anderson Beer’s film adaptation of her novel Hollow.
The publication further reports that Hollow is a “bold, reimagining” of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was a short story from 1820 written by Washington Irving. The story follows Ichabod Crane’s pursuit of Katrina Van Tassel, before encountering the horrific Headless Horseman. However, Hollow focuses on a “dangerous mystery” and “supernatural love triangle”.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has been adapted a few times before, including Tim Burton’s 1999 hit film Sleepy Hollow, starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci as Crane and Van Tassel respectively, and the American drama series featuring Tom Mison and Nicole Behaire.

According to Deadline, Beer, who will direct and adapt the script, sold the rights to her debut novel to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, with Sweeney set to play Van Tassel. The novel is also reportedly due to be released for autumn 2027 ahead of the film’s development.
Meanwhile, Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap will produce alongside Beer’s Brew Lab and Sweeney’s newest production company Honeytrap, which she announced on Instagram on 1 June after Deadline initally reported it.
She posted a screenshot of their article, writing in the caption: “sticking around @honeytrap.”
This will be Honeytrap’s first official film production, but it isn’t Sweeney’s first, having previously produced The Housemaid, Christy, Immaculate and Anyone But You – all of which she has starred in.

However, she has since added a new film to her producing roster, titled I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl. Based on a 2021 Reddit post by Joe Cote, the story sees a drifter pretend to be a missing girl with the aim of robbing her family, only to realise that it is a bad idea after setting her plan into motion.
As well as producing the film with her other production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, the actress is leading the project, with Forrest Gump screenwriter Eric Roth also attached to write the screenplay.
