BBC Morning Live presenters Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton have both been recognised for their work and will go up against each other after being nominated for the same prize at the National Television Awards.
Jones and Skelton, whose on-screen chemistry has sparked romance rumours, are both up for the Best Presenter gong at the NTAs, it has been announced. Morning Live is also nominated for Best Daytime TV show.
A BBC Morning Live statement said: “We are delighted to announce that Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton have both been nominated in the TV Presenter category at the National Television Awards.”
The news comes as Jones prepares to step away from the show on a short-term basis to take up a new role as Team Wales’ chef de mission at the Commonwealth Games.
Jones’ bosses have been hugely supportive of him taking on the new job with Wales, already granting him a week’s leave to attend a pre-event meeting in Glasgow, where the Games will be held.
He is set to be absent again this month as the Team Wales athletes are announced on June 19 and the King’s Baton Relay event is held through Wales across six days. The Games begin on July 23, with Jones to be off screen before then ahead of the show’s summer break.
Jones told WalesOnline previously: “I’m off this week and my boss is incredibly supportive of it. I think we’re off air at the end of July, so it works out unbelievably well, but after this we’ll be looking at the King’s Baton Relay and the kit launch as well, which is so exciting. It’s a real opportunity to see athletes after selection, which is on June 19. We’ll really know the team then and that’s when my job will really be important, how do we make sure they all come under the umbrella of Team Wales?

“I’m not on the organisational side of things, my role as chef is more ambassadorial, but it’s been great to be here to see how it all works and the intricacies,” said Jones.
“The detail is just phenomenal. Everything is geared towards the athletes being in the best environment to succeed when they come here in the summer and every day, every hour there’s something to consider.”
Skelton has been romantically linked with Jones at different stages since 2024, with the pair reportedly enjoying dates in a luxury spa. She split from rugby player Richie Myler in 2022.

Rumours were rife about a potential romance after the TV duo were pictured together at the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards in 2024, leaning into one another on the red carpet.
Skelton, though, played down the suggestion, saying: “We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends,” she said. “They printed pictures of us at work and we’re together because we are at work together.”
Jones, who was previously engaged to singer Katherine Jenkins, added: “We’re best friends. We’re very honest with one another.”
