Locals in Sicily, Italy, are protesting Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s three-day wedding that has shut down the city.

Photos obtained by the Daily Mail show heavy police presence outside of Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi in Palermo, where the couple — who tied the knot in a small London ceremony last weekend — is expected to host a lavish cocktail reception on Friday.

Authorities have reportedly thrown up rings of steel around multiple town squares, including Piazza Sant’Anna and Piazza Croce dei Vespri, that are closed to the public for the full wedding weekend.

In addition, roads have been shut down, no-drone fly zones have been enforced and residents have been made to sign non-disclosure agreements, according to The Sun.

In response, the angry locals have plastered dozens of posters, written in both English and Italian, all over the town squares to protest the couple’s nuptials.

“Palermo is not for rent,” some of the posters read.

Others say, “Our square is not your living room,” and “Palermo is not for the rich.”

After wedding organizers reportedly ripped the banners down, protestors hit back Friday morning by writing the same phrases with graffiti on the walls.

Local Concetta Chillemi, who owns a shop in Palermo, told the Guardian that the city feels like “a theme park” because of the wedding festivities.

Another woman named Clarissa, who owns a bar near Chillemi’s shop, said the nuptials have “brought a lot of problems” to the city’s residents.

“For example, for three days we’ve been forced to park miles away and walk to work,” Clarissa told the outlet. “It’s not right to block the city – I could understand if it was for the pope, but not for a singer.”

The three-day wedding reportedly costs $1.73 million (£1.3 million), per the Sun.

Page Six has reached out to reps for Lipa and Turner for comment.

As Page Six previously reported, Lipa, 30, and Turner, 36, are having their main wedding ceremony at Villa Valguarnera at Bagheria, Sicily, near Palermo, on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a huge, ultra-luxurious affair,” an insider told us. “They booked out a hotel so all their guests can stay together, celebrate privately and just enjoy the weekend.”

We were also told Elton John’s name has been discussed as a possible performer.

Lipa and Turner were seen out and about in Palermo on Thursday ahead of their wedding weekend.

The “Levitating” singer wore a white button-down shirt, striped cloth tied around her waist and a backwards baseball cap, while the “Eternity” actor walked by her side in a brown collared shirt and white shorts.

The couple officially became husband and wife in an intimate ceremony held last Sunday afternoon at the Old Marylebone Town Hall in London.

Lipa wore custom Schiaparelli haute couture, while Turner looked dapper in a navy Ferragamo suit. The two were surrounded by loved ones, who threw confetti as the newlyweds walked out of the venue.

Lipa and Turner sparked romance rumors in early 2024 and went public at an Apple TV+ after-party that January.

The Grammy Award winner confirmed her engagement to Turner in June 2025 during a cover interview with British Vogue after months of speculation.

“Yeah, we’re engaged,” she told the magazine. “It’s very exciting.”
