When it comes to Meghan Markle‘s post-royal business ventures, the Suits alum has had a bumpy ride. After her cancelled Spotify podcast Archetypes and her Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, not scoring a Season 3 renewal, the Duchess of Sussex has gotten used to disappointing news.
With that said, however, the latest update on one of her business ventures is quite promising. After Markle and Prince Harry purchased the rights to Carley Fortune’s book Meet Me at the Lake in 2023, the author just revealed how the adaptation is going.

Fortune then went on to explain why Markle and Harry felt like the perfect match at the time she sold it.
“When we were optioning the film, I had a really good, long call with Meghan and Tracy Ryerson, who is with Archwell,” she revealed. “And I felt like they really understood the story and what mattered about the story.”
“And we spoke a lot about it, because the story Meet Me at the Lake is a romance, but it’s very much about a mother and daughter, too,” she explained. “We talked a lot about parenthood and also about how these love stories are about so much more. It’s a story about grief, it’s a story about mental health.”

For those curious about the synopsis of Meet Me at the Lake, the 2022 novel follows the story of Fern Brookbanks and Will Baxter, two people who shared a chemistry-defying day-long date in their early twenties but lost contact right after it. They even made a pact to show up one year later at the same place, but while Fern was there, Will never showed.
Many years later, when Fern is 32, her life running her late mother’s lakeside resort is far from what she imagined it would be. That all changes, however, when Will arrives “nine years too late,” offering to help. “Will may be the only person who understands what Fern’s going through,” the blurb reads. “But how could she possibly trust this expensive-suit-wearing mirage who seems nothing like the young man she met all those years ago?”
The Sussexes’ movie adaptation has yet to announce a cast or release date.
