The “Are We There Yet?” family comedy franchise continues with stars Ice Cube and Nia Long reuniting for a third film, titled “Are They Gone Yet?”

The threequel is in early development after being acquired by Skydance Sports.

The original film saw Ice Cube star as Nick, a ladies’ man on a mission to impress Suzanne (Long), a gorgeous divorcee raising two kids. When Nick offers to take Suzanne’s kids on an extended road trip (in his prized Lincoln Navigator), he quickly realizes he’s in for more than he bargained for. The 2005 comedy debuted at the top of the domestic box office and grossed $97 million at the global box office. The 2007 sequel “Are We Done Yet?,” which sees Nick and Suzanne as newlyweds navigating their life as a blended family and clashing with their contractor, earned $58 million worldwide.

Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana are writing the new installment, which sees Nick face his biggest challenge yet… grandkids.

Following the box office success of the two movies, TBS adapted the franchise into a sitcom, starring Terry Crews and Essence Atkins. The show ran for three seasons from 2010 to 2013.

“Are They Gone Yet?” is produced by Broken Road and CubeVision, with Ice Cube, Todd Garner and Jeff Kwatinetz as producers. Executive producers are Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennawey.

Ice Cube is represented by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Garner is represented by Patrick Knapp at Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson, & Christopher, LLP.

Deadline first reported news of the threequel.
