A new take on “The Blair Witch Project” will haunt theaters next fall.
Lionsgate, which is backing the reboot of the supernatural thriller, has slated the movie for Sept. 24, 2027.
Plot details have not been revealed, but Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson has previously referred to the film as a “new vision” that will “reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.”
Dylan Clark, who got his start on YouTube, is directing the upcoming “Blair Witch Project” from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin.
“The Blair Witch Project,” released in 1999, is one of the most commercially successful indie films of all time, earning nearly $250 million at the global box office against a micro budget. The movie uses “found footage” to capture the alleged true story of three student filmmakers who disappear while making a film about the legend of Blair Witch.
Executive producers of the remake include the 1999 film’s creators Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale, as well as original film cast members Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams. They will be joined by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Steven Schneider. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster founders Jason Blum and James Wan will serve as producers with Roy Lee, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.
