The Schulz Celebrity Golf Classic marked its 25th anniversary on June 2 at Santa Rosa’s Mayacama Golf Club, raising a record $1 million net for children’s charities across Sonoma County.
“To have a charity endure for 25 years is a testament to the individuals and organizations that have been supporting the Schulz and the Sonoma County Children’s Charities that benefit from the philanthropy of this community,” said Jonathan Wilhelm, managing partner at the golf club.

Hosted by award-winning actor John O’Hurley, the milestone event brought together athletes, entertainers and community members to honor the legacy of Charles M. Schulz, creator of the “Peanuts” comic strip, who lived in Sonoma County for decades.
O’Hurley, best known for his role as J. Peterman — Elaine’s eccentric boss — on the NBC sitcom “Seinfeld,” won a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the ensemble cast. He was also nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of outstanding drama series as part of the production team for “The Young and the Restless.”

The day included appearances by former professional athletes and celebrities such as Barry Bonds, Rick Barry, Chris Mullin, Vince Coleman, Mark Rypien, Steve Bono and Willie Gault, alongside entertainment from performer Kenny Metcalf.
A live auction featuring travel, golf and luxury experiences helped drive fundraising totals, along with a $500,000 contribution from grand sponsor Lytton Rancheria.
Proceeds benefit five local organizations: the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin, the PDI Surgery Center, Charles M. Schulz Education Programs, the Sonoma Academy Scholarship Fund, First Tee North Coast and Read On, Sonoma!.
