On Tuesday, Jake Reiner made his first public appearance since his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, were killed last December. Reiner attended the premiere of Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, a new HBO show from Rob Reiner’s longtime friend Larry David. In an Instagram post, Reiner shared that he has a role in the first episode. Per his IMDb, he’s playing someone named Private Wallace.

In April, Reiner published an essay on Substack memorializing his parents. “Nothing can prepare you for what it feels like to lose both parents instantly at the same time,” he wrote. “It’s too devastating to comprehend. I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream. This truly is my living nightmare.”

Nick Reiner, Jake’s brother, was arrested shortly after Rob and Michele Reiner’s bodies were discovered by their daughter, Romy Reiner. Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is currently awaiting trial at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. In February, he pleaded not guilty to both charges.

In his essay, Reiner wrote that everything surrounding his parents’ death has been “almost too impossible to process.” “I understand that people have questions about what happened,” he shared. “Some of those answers will come in time. But some parts of this belong only to our family, and keeping them private is the only way to protect what little remains of something that was taken from us.”
