BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A Burlington Hertz employee stepped in to help a stranded internet celebrity after the airport ran out of rental cars Wednesday night.

Freddy, a German citizen visiting the U.S. for the World Cup, has gone viral in recent weeks documenting his road trip across the country. On Wednesday night, he posted to social media that he was stuck at Burlington International Airport after the airport ran out of rental cars.

Richard Rose, the general manager of the Burlington Hertz location, heard about the situation and hand-delivered a car to Freddy on Thursday morning, allowing his road trip to continue.

Rose said the interaction went beyond a simple car handoff.

“Obviously we had some time to talk, which was great because we got to connect on a personal level — not just me giving him a car and helping him,” Rose said. “We got to connect on a personal level in the sense that I’ve been to Germany, where he’s from, a couple times when I was younger. And I don’t get to connect with too many German citizens here at home. So it was nice to talk to him about my experiences.”

Rose said he and Freddy exchanged contact information and plan to stay in touch.
