Lionsgate has announced the release date for the highly anticipated as-yet-untitled Blair Witch movie. Coming from filmmaker Dylan Clark, the movie will land in US cinemas on 24 September 2027.
A UK release date is yet to be confirmed. On Instagram, Clark, alongside Lionsgate, Blumhouse Productions, and Lionsgate Horror, shared a creepy teaser for the film, unveiling the release date and simply captioned: “9.24.27”.
Clark is a first-time feature film director who recently signed with Universal to adapt his horror short Portrait of God into a movie produced by Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele.

Chris Thomas Devlin, who penned 2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and 2023’s Cobweb, has written the script with Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum producing alongside James Wan, Roy Lee, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.
Executive producers are the original film’s writers and directors Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick as well as original stars Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams.
While little is known about the film’s plot, it promises to “remind us how scary the woods can be with this groundbreaking new chapter of The Blair Witch Project”.
Previously Williams described the film as “not a ‘remake,'” adding on X: “You just wait. The Witch is Back… “
The new film was first announced in 2024 with Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson describing the remake as a “new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation”.
But the announcement was immediately met with controversy with the 1999 film’s original’s cast expressing their disappointment in not being included in the project.

The group released a public statement requesting both residual payments for the 1999 film and “meaningful consultation” on any future Blair Witch films.
In April of this year, it appeared the two parties had come to an agreement with Leonard and Williams being added as executive producers (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Previously two Blair Witch sequels have been released, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 in 2000 and Blair Witch in 2016.
The as-yet-untitled Blair Witch movie will land in cinemas on 24 September 2027.
