It’s only taken 25 years but Shrek’s beloved companion Donkey is finally getting his own movie. The spin-off adventure will serve as an origin story for the fan-favourite character, who is voiced by Eddie Murphy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Donkey will be released in cinemas on 30 June
2028. The Lego Ninjago Movie’s Charlie Bean is directing the prequel movie alongside The Bad Guys’ Matt Flynn.
The announcement is good news for Donkey fans, who have been patiently awaiting a solo movie since the iconic sidekick first skipped onto our screens. The perfect counterpart to Shrek’s sullen personality, Donkey instantly won viewers’ hearts with his upbeat attitude and fierce loyalty.
