Amy Adams, one of the biggest names attached to Star Wars: Starfighter, has revealed a few details about her time filming the new movie, including the fact that she wasn’t on the film’s set for too long.

After a conversation about her long and storied career, the hosts of the Smartless podcast (Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett) eventually reached the topic of her role in Star Wars: Starfighter. Here’s what she had to say about the nature of her part and her experience filming:

“I had a very small part… I loved [getting to see all of the props, and] I went to the creature shop twice – yeah, it’s so cool! I mean, I’ll talk about this, I’m sure, down the road, but like – I don’t know what I’m allowed to talk about, but I was so nervous the first day of working, like I forgot how to act. I’m sure Shawn Levy’s like, ‘Amy, are you okay?’ And I’m like ‘No. I’m just not alright!’ …I’m on a Star Wars set, and I like, I grew up on this. I have to now get out of my dorky fangirl place and go into my professional actress [mode], and combining the two was really hard… It’s so cool, you guys – it’s just so cool, [and while I can’t say much, I can say Flynn Gray] is so great.”

Though it has not been confirmed by the studio yet, reports stated last August that Adams will play the mother of Flynn Gray’s character, who, next to Ryan Gosling’s, will be the lead of the movie. Other rumors suggest that Adams’ character is also a Jedi. The actress had previously worked with Levy on 2009’s Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian, and starred in 2016’s Arrival, which Levy also produced.

Sean Hayes mentioned seeing “the new [version] of R2-D2”, likely referring to a new droid character, while Amy Adams emphasized an abundance of practical sets and props. You can listen to the entire podcast below (Star Wars: Starfighter talk begins at about 30:30):

Star Wars: Starfighter is currently in post-production, after shooting wrapped in late 2025, and is well ahead of schedule to meet its release date on May 28, 2027. Directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Deadpool & Wolverine) and written by frequent collaborator Jonathan Tropper (Warrior, The Adam Project), the spin-off film represents a story that is set five years after the end of the Skywalker Saga, comprising the nine episodic entries in the film series. Its cast includes Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
