Avengers: Endgame has confirmed a new post-credit scene for its upcoming re-release. The 2019 movie will return to the big screen later this year, ahead of Avengers: Doomsday’s highly-anticipated debut.

The re-release is said to be a way to bridge the gap between the two stories, with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige teasing “new surprises” in Endgame.

Meanwhile, director Joe Russo confirmed that fans will get to see added footage “that is set in the Doomsday story”, making the re-release a “critical companion story” to the next Avengers movie.

“It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way, and because the movie was so successful, we have an opportunity to re-release it,” he previously said at the Sands Film Festival (via Deadline).

“You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money, so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story. It’s a really unique opportunity.”

Following the announcement, fans have been speculating about the extra footage and how it will fit into the movie. Now, according to Deadline, Disney has confirmed what the newly-titled Avengers: Endgame Encore will actually include.

Speaking at CineEurope in Barcelona, Disney revealed that the re-release will feature a custom introduction, additional new footage, plus a special post-credit scene exclusive to Infinity Vision and Imax screenings.

It’s unclear exactly what the footage will reveal with details still being kept under wraps, though Doomsday will apparently pick up from the events of Endgame, making it a seemingly essential rewatch.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of other MCU content to keep you occupied until the main event, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to hit cinemas next month. The fourth instalment in the franchise will see Peter Parker navigating life after the whole world – including his nearest and dearest – has forgotten who he is.

Avengers: Endgame is re-released in cinemas on 25 September, while Avengers: Doomsday is released in cinemas on 18 December.
