Toy Story 5 spoilers follow.
Toy Story fans will be pleased to discover that the latest movie provides a long-awaited explanation for a huge plot hole within the franchise. The fifth instalment, which was released earlier this month, finally addresses why Buzz Lightyear freezes when humans are around.
In the original 1995 movie, viewers were introduced to the secret life lived by toys when their owners weren’t looking. We learnt that the toys had wild adventures all over the house (and beyond) but avoided being caught by pretending to be inanimate around people.

This premise has carried five whole movies and a spin-off across more than three decades. But one question that was left to debate was why Buzz (who didn’t know he was a toy), froze up alongside the others.
It seems Disney and Pixar have now decided to address the glaring plot hole in Toy Story 5, as pointed out by ScreenRant.
The movie begins with a bunch of Buzz Lightyear action figures finding themselves on an island, after their cargo container goes missing in transit.
Like in Toy Story, the brand-new toys believe they are real space agents, and leap into action to return to Star Command, ending up at a shipping yard.

When a worker approaches, they all suddenly stop moving and fall to the floor. But later, they are left wondering why exactly they froze, with none of them being able to provide an answer.
While the scene doesn’t quiet explain their instinct to freeze in front of humans, it suggests all toys are simply programmed to do so in order to maintain their secret – even if they don’t know they’re toys.
The hilarious opening is sure to provide some relief to fans who have been plagued by the inconsistency over the last 31 years.
Toy Story 5 is out now in cinemas.
