If don’t fancy hunting through the TV schedules for something good to watch this week, we’ve come to your rescue. We’ve done the hard work for you and sorted the good from the bad to bring you the shows that are absolutely superb.
From the arrival of two big mystery series to a crime thriller that’s like Shetland but darker, we’ve got something to watch no matter what mood you’re in. So, sit back and relax, because these are the 7 best shows to watch this week on ITV, Netflix, the BBC and more.
Citadel
Prime Video
This Prime Video has been called better than Slow Horses and if you’re yet to tune in (and you don’t have Prime), you can now catch up on series one now on ITV. Richard Madden and Priyanka Jonas are the two spies at the centre of the action, both of whom had their memories wiped when their agency, Citadel, was destroyed by powerful criminal syndicate Manticore. But our favourite performance comes from Lesley Manville who plays the manipulative Dahlia Archer, the UK Ambassador to the US, who’s also a Manticore agent. Devilishly good. Citadel is available to watch now on ITVX.
Wimbledon
BBC
Strawberries and cream at the ready for Wimbledon’s very welcome return. Every match from all 18 courts will be available to watch live on BBC iPlayer, and there will also be daily coverage on BBC One and BBC Two. Italy’s Jannik Sinner is the favourite to win the men’s singles, while Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek are tipped to go head-to-head in the women’s. But we all know how quickly the odds can change… Starts on BBC One and BBC Two on Monday 29th June.
Elle
Jessica Brooks
Legally Blonde is turning 25, which means we’re being treated to a prequel series. Original star Reese Witherspoon is at the helm, because who else could tell the story of Elle Woods’ (now played by newcomer Lexi Minetree) high-school years better than Elle herself? Reese has said she got the idea for it after watching Netflix’s Wednesday – so there’s every chance we might see some similarities. Arriving on Prime Video on Wednesday 1st July.
Enola Holmes 3
John Wilson
The popular TV film franchise, which follows the exploits of Sherlock Holmes’ (Henry Cavill) younger sister, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown), is back. The latest instalment sees the young detective tackle another mystery, this time on the island nation of Malta. As Enola heads to the altar to marry Lord Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), she learns the distressing news that Sherlock (Henry Cavill) has been kidnapped. Perfect family viewing. Arriving on Netflix on Wednesday 1st July.
Silo
Rekha Garton
Want to know what it’s like to exist in a giant underground silo that plunges hundreds of stories deep? You can find out in Silo, which is set in a dystopian world where a community of 10,000 people is now living in such circumstances after the “normal” world is destroyed. Now entering its third series, Rebecca Ferguson returns as Juliette Nicholls, a sound engineer who works on the lowest floor of the silo and she’s facing plenty of new threats. The series will also reveal a fascinating origin story set centuries earlier. Arriving on Apple TV on Friday 3rd July.
Dark Winds
Michael Moriatis/AMC
A remote, atmospheric settling, two hardened police officers and a series of perplexing crimes – no, we’re not talking about Shetland, but Dark Winds. The series takes us back to the 1970s on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley where Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) of the Tribal Police and Deputy Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) are besieged by a series of crimes. Series 4, which is about to land on Netflix, finds them on the search for a missing Navajo girl – a case that takes them to gritty terrain of Los Angeles. Like a US-set Shetland but darker. Series 4 is arriving on Netflix on Saturday 4th July.
Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol
peacock
Based on Dan Brown’s international bestselling book of the same name, this brilliant mystery series follows the early adventures of famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon (played by Ashley Zukerman) who’s recruited by the CIA. What do they need him for? Well, it turns out his mentor, Peter Solomon (Eddie Izzard) has gone missing and he must help solve a series of deadly puzzles not only to save him, but also thwart a chilling global conspiracy. Arriving on Paramount+ on Sunday 5th July.
