The ex Top Gear and current Grand Tour star Richard Hammond paid Miller and Carter a visit in Cathedral Square.

The presenter and journalist, who runs the Smallest Cog garage in Hereford’s Rotherwas, surprised staff at the steakhouse with his presence after appearing in several other venues in the city.

Leanne King, manager at Miller and Carter, said: “Emily Humphries, who served Richard Hammond, said the guests were very well-mannered and seemed to be having a great time, well-mannered and polite.

“Emily said Richard was a pleasure to serve.

“He was polite and it wasn’t awkward at any point.

“Mr Hammond was kind and considerate throughout the service.”

Jordan Jenkins, the grill chef at the restaurant, shook hands with Richard, who thanked him for the food at the end of the evening.

Mr Jenkins said meeting the star at Miller and Carter was a dream come true after becoming a fan as a child.

Staff shared that Richard was extremely modest and humble and that he took the time to speak to each person who approached him.

One member of staff, Greg Dunne, said he asked Richard if people approaching him ever gets old, to which the star replied with a no and a smile on his face.

He added: “He was such a humble guy and a pleasure to serve.”
