It’s not too late. There’s still over a month to go until Mutiny – the latest hard-man action outing from premiere action hard-man Jason Statham, this time directed by Jean-François Richet – comes to UK cinemas in late August. Now, real Richet-heads will know that the director’s previous film was 2023’s Plane. You know, the one with the plane, starring Gerard Butler as the pilot of said plane, forced to land the plane in hostile territory, and protect the plane-folk from a militarised group. In Mutiny, Statham’s Cole Reed is framed for the murder of his billionaire boss, and boards a boat to exact his plan of revenge, taking out the boat-folk only to stumble on a bigger boat-plot. We’re all thinking it: it should be called ‘Boat’. Here’s the trailer:

This looks like more straight-up action cinema from Statham, who already in the last couple of years has given us The Beekeeper, A Working Man, and Shelter. And, lest we forget, next year brings The Beekeeper 2, and the brilliantly-titled Jason Statham Stole My Bike in which he’ll play – you guessed it – Jason Statham. Mutiny sees him co-star with fellow Brit actors Annabelle Wallis, Adrian Lester, and Jason Wong; Statham also produces the film.

Mutiny is set to take over cinemas – by force, if necessary – on August 21, and will arrive beyond that on Sky Cinema in the UK. Here’s hoping they’ve decided to call it ‘Boat’ by that point. And why not go deeper into the Richet-verse and give us a Plane and Mutiny crossover? It’s what cinema was made for.
