Rosie O’Donnell has some words for President Donald Trump after he dropped an AI-generated video of her “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
In an excerpt from a recent interview with Variety that published July 8, the former “The View” host , 64, took aim at the 80-year-old president, calling him “the worst thing that ever happened to our country.”
“He was allowed to go on a show [‘The Apprentice’] that was a reality show, and it was sold as fact when it was in fact fiction, because he was broke – one of the many times that he was broke – and this is a man who has been a failure at everything he’s ever tried, and he is mediocre beyond mediocre, and the fact that he is running our nation is an abomination,” O’Donnell said.
Trump hosted the first 14 seasons of “The Apprentice” in episodes that aired between 2004 and 2015.
A 2020 New York Times report found that, belying his businessman persona, the entrepreneur reported annual net losses in the ’90s through his dealings – and instead built his fortune ($427 million from “The Apprentice” and licensing deals) off his reality TV fame, according to decades of tax returns. At the time, the White House called the reporting “fake news.”
“It’s the worst thing that ever happened to our country and I think it needs to be rectified sooner rather than later if we are to remain a democratic republic,” O’Donnell said of Trump’s presidency.
In response to O’Donnell’s comments, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to share an AI-generated image of her with thought bubbles of the president while performing daily activities. “She (?) is OBSESSED!” the comic is captioned.
Rosie O’Donnell ‘horrified’ by Trump’s role in Folarin Balogun’s red card reversal
The “Rosie O’Donnell Show” star also felt “horrified” by Trump’s interference with the FIFA World Cup, which resulted in star U.S. player Folarin Balogun’s red-card suspension being reversed. (Despite Balogun’s return to the field, the U.S. men’s national team lost to Belgium on July 6.)
“I’m horrified that he is able to get away with pretty much everything, and it’s sickening,” O’Donnell said. “Since when does he get to make and change the rules, the goalposts, whatever metaphor you want to use, and everyone just sits by and shrugs their shoulders? There’s so much [corruption] that we don’t even notice it.”
The two reality TV personalities’ feud dates back to O’Donnell’s time on “The View,” when she mocked Trump and called him a “snake oil salesman” in 2006. O’Donnell in 2025 cited the political climate during Trump’s second as the reason for her move to Ireland.
Despite her disillusionment, O’Donnell vowed to maintain her ties to the U.S.
“I will never give up my American citizenship and that’s the only way it can be taken from you if you’re an American citizen, no matter what the current president says,” she said.
