Anemone, the 2025 film starring Sean Bean and a returning Daniel Day-Lewis has landed a new streaming home in the UK. The Yorkshire-based drama is available to stream now on Sky Cinema/NOW (with Cinema membership).
The film was Day-Lewis’ first starring role in eight years and he teamed up with son Ronan Day-Lewis to write the script. Ronan also helms the film in his feature-length directorial debut.
Anemone explores the complex relationships between brothers as well as fathers and sons, with Day-Lewis portraying Ray Stoker, a reclusive army veteran. Meanwhile, Bean plays Ray’s brother Jem, who goes to visit him in the hope of convincing him to reconnect with his family.

What did the critics say about Anemone?
Anemone received mixed reviews from critics and currently holds a 52% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 146 reviews.
Empire called the film “a powerful story about father and sons, told by a father and son”, adding: “At once a showcase for a monumental talent, and the arrival of an exciting new one.”
Meanwhile Time Out said it was “an acting masterclass”, adding: “We should be grateful that it’s lured Daniel Day-Lewis back into acting after eight years in the metaphorical woods.”
Writing about the father-son collaboration between Daniel Day-Lewis and Ronan, Rolling Stone wrote: “Forget, for a second, that this signals what may either be an extraordinary one-off for the legendary actor or the beginning of a fertile new chapter. Look it more as the product of two artists, generations apart, who have found a common patch of ground and grown something amazing out of it.”
However, The Observer was less impressed, calling Anemone an “undisciplined, incoherent slog that is overloaded with empty symbolism and showy thesping.”
