When you think of the Spice Girls, you probably think of that Union Jack dress, girl power in the Cool Britannia era and the Wannabe music video filmed at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. In short: they’re a group that are heavily identified with Great Britain.

So it makes total sense that the five women are fans of the country’s royal family, too. So much so that they’ve spent plenty of time together – enough that Mel B (formerly known as Scary Spice) has a favourite moment with the royals.

What might be a bit of a surprise, though, is that Melanie Brown’s favourite Royal moment isn’t a fancy ball or anything to do with tiaras. Instead, it’s an unexpectedly down-to-earth meal choice for two young princes.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Mel stated that one of her all-time best Spice Girls moments, along with meeting Nelson Mandela and playing Wembley, was ‘spending a day with Harry and William’. She shared: ‘They were young princes and we made them peanut butter and jam sandwiches’.

Mel went on to reveal which Spice Girls member one of the princes had a crush on as well as her thoughts of both the brothers when they were younger. ‘They were such cute kids,’ she said. ‘I can’t remember whether it was William or Harry who had a crush on Emma, but they were so polite and charming and gorgeous.’

That was far from the last time the Spice Girl spent time with a member of the royal family. The last time Mel B saw Prince William was memorable for a different reason, however. She shared: ‘It was when he was pinning my MBE to my chest in a dress Victoria had made for me, which was just a little bit revealing in exactly the place he pinned the medal to. Victoria knew exactly what she was doing when she designed it for me.’

The dress Mel B is referring to there is a red Victoria Beckham piece with a large cut out on the chest, so we can see what she means about Victoria being up to something. Still, it didn’t seem to cause any issues at the time. Speaking after collecting her MBE back in 2022, Mel spoke about Prince William’s praise for her work as a patron of Women’s Aid. ‘He commended me on all my work that I’ve been doing, and he goes, “I’m so sorry you went through such a horrible time”,’ she told PA. ‘He did say, “I can’t believe I’m giving you one of these – I’m delighted,” and I said, “Aw thank you” and we had a giggle.’

Mel later revealed that Prince William used the opportunity to push for a Spice Girls reunion. Hopefully, the pair can team up again to finally make it happen – Posh Spice included this time.
