Congratulations are in order for Meghan Markle. Yes, her children finally got to hang out with their grandfather, but that’s not what I’m talking about. On Tuesday, the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced, and Markle’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, was nominated for Outstanding Lifestyle Series. Now this is an occasion that warrants pulling out the edible flowers.

Markle celebrated her nom with an Instagram post, writing, “A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on ‘With Love, Meghan’ on @netflix. We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!” A little restrained, but I’ll let her have it. It’s probably a bittersweet moment. In March, Variety reported that With Love, Meghan had not been renewed in full by Netflix. Instead, a spokesperson for Markle said the show “will continue as seasonal specials.” (Yet we did not get a summer barbecue special where Prince Harry pops in to make a Pimm’s cup? Do I have to pitch everything around here?)

With Love, Meghan faces some steep competition in its category. Markle’s show is going up against The Motherhood, a Hallmark reality show hosted by Connie Britton that seems to be like Queer Eye for moms; George to the Rescue, a home-renovation show; A Different Breed, a show about dogs playing sports; and The Wizard of Paws, which is about a guy who makes prosthetic limbs for animals. As I said, steep competition — maybe a few jars of jam could convince Emmy voters to give Markle the win.

The nom is probably a welcome boost for Markle, whose TV career continues to enrage people for absolutely no reason. Earlier this week, MasterChef Australia announced Markle would serve as a guest judge on an upcoming episode. Sounds like a great gig for her, someone with a food brand and a demonstrated interest in cooking. Based on the Instagram comments, however, you would think they invited an evil woman who detests food. “Thanks for the heads up and making it easier to avoid 🥹💀,” one commenter wrote, joining a sea of people writing “no thanks” and “won’t watch.” Don’t they know they’re talking about an Emmy nominee?
