On Friday, Nara Smith announced that her daughter Whimsy’s cancer is in remission. Earlier this month, Smith shared that Whimsy, 2, had been diagnosed late last year and received chemotherapy. In her latest video, the influencer said that the toddler had finished treatment and that the whole process showed her how taxing the health-care system can be for families.
“Lucky and I have been going through this and processing it for the last eight months, and we were debating on even sharing such a private part of our life,” Smith said, referencing her husband, Lucky Blue Smith, with whom she shares three other children. “[We] wanted to wait until she was done with treatment and us knowing what the outcome of her situation would be before sharing it and even finding the words to share it. Now that she’s finally in remission, it felt like I could find the words to share.”
“The whole point of me sharing our experience was to shed light on what so many families go through and battle privately,” Nara Smith continued. “Going through chemo treatments opened my eyes to how expensive medical care is and what a toll it takes on families specifically.”
Smith said that she was working on finding the right charities and foundations to support, but in the meantime, she shared four GoFundMe pages for children fighting cancer. “Childhood cancer showed us the hope strangers can give. I never want a family to feel alone on this road. Sharing their fundraisers here to lighten the load,” she wrote on her profile.
“Lucky and I have been trying to return to everyday life and taking it day by day,” Smith said in her video. “I don’t know whether life will ever feel normal again, but we’re trying to navigate this next chapter the best that we can.”
