Morgan Spector is in negotiations to take over the role of Robert Langdon for Netflix’s straight-to-series adaptation of Dan Brown’s “The Secret of Secrets,” with real-life wife Rebecca Hall eyed for female lead Katherine Solomon. The eight-episode series, co-created by Brown and Carlton Cuse, is set to begin filming in Prague this fall, succeeding Tom Hanks in the role he originated across three films.
Tom Hanks carried Robert Langdon across three blockbuster films and more than $2.2 billion at the global box office, but Netflix is reportedly building its own version of the symbologist from scratch. According to Variety, Morgan Spector is in negotiations to step into the role for the streamer’s adaptation of “The Secret of Secrets,” Dan Brown’s sixth novel in the series. Rebecca Hall, Spector’s wife since 2015, is said to be in talks to play opposite him as Katherine Solomon. Should both deals close, the show would give the couple their first onscreen pairing in a television series, after years sharing stages and film sets together.
Robert Langdon is getting a new face. According to a Variety report published July 10, 2026, Morgan Spector is in negotiations to play the Harvard symbologist in Netflix’s series adaptation of Dan Brown’s latest novel, The Secret of Secrets. A rep for Netflix declined to comment, but the talks signal that one of publishing’s biggest franchises is moving fast toward cameras.
A married couple in front of the camera
Rebecca Hall, Spector’s real-life wife, is reportedly in talks for the female lead role of Katherine Solomon opposite him. The two met on the Broadway revival of Machinal and married on September 26, 2015, in Saugerties, New York. They have shared the screen before, in the films Christine and Permission, but this would be their first TV series together if both deals close.
Dan Brown and Carlton Cuse behind the scenes
Netflix handed the project a straight-to-series order in May 2025. Brown co-creates the show with Carlton Cuse, the veteran behind Lost and Jack Ryan, who serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer, with Emma Forman of Cuse’s Genre-Arts also producing. The adaptation runs 8 episodes and draws from the sixth Langdon novel, published by Doubleday on September 9, 2025. Filming is slated to begin this fall in Prague, the city where the story unfolds.
Stepping into Tom Hanks’ shoes
Spector would inherit a role with serious box office pedigree. Tom Hanks played Langdon in three Ron Howard films for Columbia Pictures, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Inferno, which together grossed more than $2.2 billion worldwide. The character also appeared on television in 2021, when Ashley Zukerman led Peacock’s adaptation of The Lost Symbol, canceled after a single season. The Netflix series arrives as the franchise’s first small-screen attempt since that short run.
Juggling Langdon and the Russells
Spector currently stars as George Russell in HBO’s The Gilded Age, whose fourth season is expected this fall. Per sources, he could continue on both shows with proper scheduling, should the HBO drama earn a fifth season. Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for The Secret of Secrets.
