Are they pulling an Uno Reverse on Megxit?Six years after Harry and Meghan’s “Megxit” exit sent shockwaves through the royal family and the public, it now looks like things might be changing — again. Reports are swirling that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are genuinely considering spending more time in the UK. It’s not a flat-out return to royal life, but there’s a definite shift in tone from the couple, especially after Harry’s recent, much-talked-about reunion with King Charles III. People close to them say the couple just wants to start bridging the gap with Harry’s family and give their kids a real chance to know their British roots.Per People, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Harry, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, apparently shared tea at Highgrove House earlier this month. Royal insiders called it a big deal, as this was the first proper reunion between the King and his grandkids in years. The visit stands out, not just as a family gathering but as a sign that maybe things are thawing after years of icy relations, scathing interviews, lawsuits, and tell-all books. And in the middle of all that chatter, rumors are rife that Harry and Meghan might be looking to cross the pond again.
Uno reverse on Megxit: What’s happening?
So why are Harry and Meghan looking at the UK again now?For starters, there’s a growing sense among Harry’s friends that he’s starting to feel out of place in America. Per Page Six, “The Sussexes are seeking to reverse Megxit,” the Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff wrote Friday, adding that “it seems that a return to the UK is being contemplated in some form and that the couple’s holiday home in Portugal will be used as a staging post back to Britain.”Page Six reports that a friend of Prince Harry reportedly told the outlet “there is definitely a feeling in his camp that he has started to feel a bit unwelcome in America,” adding, “That has been an increasing and significant shift in sentiment, a feeling that the American dream might not be all that it was cracked up to be.”Sure, the Sussexes have pulled off a successful streaming deal, and there’ve been moments in the spotlight with multiple shows. But “England is where Harry’s heart has always lain,” the source said, adding, “It is no secret that they went to the States to try and seek their fortune, to try to capitalize on his fame and his royalty to some degree.”Plus, the word from the source is, “their American dream is cooling,” and Meghan “feels an outcast status as well.” They added, “She feels like she is trying to push fresh thoughts and projects, but it is not easy. So maybe enough water has now passed under the bridge here for some form of a return.”The source reportedly explained, “I hear that Meghan is all for rekindling with and reconnecting with Harry’s English side. She is fully behind it.”
If not Britain, then where?
After years of feeling wary about coming back, mostly for security reasons and that relentless British tabloid glare, it sounds like Meghan is ready for their family to become part of Harry’s English side again.Page Six reported that a source told the Daily Mail that the couple “had a house built in Portugal for the kids to be close to their royal side in case they want to participate. It’s in a private part; I’m not sure it’s finished yet. Meghan was having Soho House decorate it.”A friend of Harry’s allegedly added that the house “is a foot on the right side of the pond and I believe that they spent time there after being in the UK last week and before it as well. It’s within striking distance for them to get to London.”Per the sources, Harry apparently never truly wanted to be cut off from his family. “I think when he was madly in love with Meghan, he could be blind enough to choose her. Now things are different, and the veil is lifting,” they added. The ‘Spare’ Prince apparently “wants to be in England, but Portugal could be a kind of stepping stone for a couple of years.”
Sussexes back in the royal fold?
For the unversed, the Sussexes stepped down from official royal duties in 2020 after reaching an agreement with Queen Elizabeth II. Under that arrangement, they relinquished royal patronages, stopped receiving public funding for royal work, and agreed not to use their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles in a working capacity while pursuing financial independence in North America. But the recent get-together at Highgrove has affected the already set equations. Reportedly, this trip to the other side of the pond was an important one for Archie and Lilibet, too. The kids have talked with their grandfather over FaceTime, but this was the first in-person visit in years — the first chance to connect beyond a screen.“Harry was never going to let the kids down; they were so invested in the trip,” a source told the outlet, adding, “They FaceTime with Charles all the time, so they already have a relationship, but they were so excited to finally come. It was their first proper chance to meet.”
What’s next?
With Harry set to return again for the Invictus Games and possibly a charity event in September, these aren’t just flying visits. There’s real talk of more regular time in the UK, possibly with Meghan and the kids joining Harry for longer stretches. There’s no official confirmation yet that the Sussexes are going to move back into a royal palace. But it’s clear that Harry and Meghan are laying the groundwork for something different: a life that doesn’t shut the door on either side of the Atlantic and offers their kids a bridge between two worlds they belong to.
