Taylor Swift has two singles that are being promoted to radio at the moment, though a quick look at the Adult Contemporary chart – one of Billboard’s three tallies that focus on stations in the U.S. that play various forms of pop music – seems to suggest that she and her team are pushing a lot more than just a pair of cuts.

The Adult Contemporary roster moves at a much slower pace than any other radio tally ranked by Billboard, and months after a song peaks, backtracks and perhaps even disappears on either the Pop Airplay or Adult Pop Airplay charts, it can finally begin to work its way up the AC rundown. The biggest hits are known to hold on for months and sometimes more than a year, and that can cause some truly odd showings to occur. This week, Swift scores a new top 10 smash, and as she does, she manages a historic first.

“Elizabeth Taylor” Becomes Taylor Swift’s New Top 10

“Elizabeth Taylor,” the third official single from Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, rises into the uppermost tier on the Adult Contemporary chart this week. 16 frames into its time on the rundown, “Elizabeth Taylor” pushes from No. 14 to No. 10, officially becoming a top 10 hit.

Swift fills an incredible four spaces within only the top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart this week. Amazingly, her quartet of wins appear side-by-side-by-side-by-side. “The Fate of Ophelia,” the first tune pushed from The Life of a Showgirl, which arrived back in October, is still the highest-ranking of the bunch, even as it backtracks slightly to No. 7. “Opalite,” the second promotional tune from the collection, holds at No. 8. “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which Swift penned and recorded for Toy Story 5, is stationary at No. 9, its all-time high, landing just one space above “Elizabeth Taylor” this time around.

Taylor Swift Makes Adult Contemporary Chart History

According to Billboard, Swift is the first artist – when not taking into account seasonal music – to land as many as four top 10s on the Adult Contemporary chart simultaneously. The ranking has been continuously published since 1961, and amazingly, only one other name has managed the showing, but he only during the colder months of the year.

The music magazine reports that in 2011, Michael Bublé occupied half of all the spaces within the top 10 during one period. In another two weeks, he filled four slots between Nos. 1 and 10, just as Swift does now.

Swift has racked up nine No. 1 hits throughout her career. She first reached the top space on the Adult Contemporary chart in the summer of 2009 with “Love Story,” one of her earliest wins. She last conquered the tally in January 2024 with “Cruel Summer,” which enjoyed a viral surge that turned it into a smash single after Swift included it on the set list during her The Eras Tour.

None of the four songs that appear on the list at the moment have risen to the peak position, although “The Fate of Ophelia” came close, pushing all the way to No. 2 this March. “Opalite” also cracked the top five, lifting to fourth place in May.

The singer-songwriter’s nine leaders make up less than half of all of her 23 top 10s. That figure has grown significantly over the past year and expands once again this week. Impressively, 30 tracks by Swift that have appeared on the Adult Contemporary chart have missed the top 10, meaning that the Grammy winner fails to push a single into that competitive region more often than not.

Swift is one of half a dozen artists to claim multiple wins on this week’s Adult Contemporary chart. The other five — Alex Warren, Bruno Mars, Olivia Dean, Ella Langley, and Sombr — only fill two spaces, and she beats all of them twice over.

The only one of that bunch to claim several top 10s is current Best New Artist Grammy winner Dean. Her breakout smash “Man I Need” lifts to its all-time high of No. 3, while follow-up single “So Easy (To Fall in Love)” improves to a new peak of No. 6.

Warren’s “Ordinary” earns its thirty-seventh stint at No. 1. As it holds at the summit, the love song breaks its tie with “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 and becomes the lone third-longest-running ruler of all time.
