Pontio Arts Centre in Bangor extended their film’s run of Madfabulous in June after the movie outperformed major Hollywood releases at the cinema.
The success is being hailed as evidence of the appetite for Welsh-made films and local storytelling, with audiences embracing the story of Henry Paget, the fifth Marquess of Anglesey.
The film will be available on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital Platforms (including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and Sky) from Monday, July 20.
The visually extravagant and beautifully shot film explores the real-life story of Henry Paget, the 5th Marquis of Anglesey – an aristocrat remembered for his lavish lifestyle, theatrical flair and refusal to conform to society’s expectations.
The production was filmed at Plas Newydd – the ancestral home of the 5th Marquess of Anglesey, situated on the banks of the Menai Strait.
Scenes were also shot in Glynllifon Estate (Plas Glynllifon) near Caernarfon, Pwllheli and Penrhyn Castle in Llandygai.

Madfabulous director Celyn Jones said: “Madfabulous has caught the hearts and imaginations of the people, local and beyond. To sit in full cinemas and see a myriad of ages and backgrounds, all there to enjoy the same thing, is so humbling.
“For North Wales to feel so celebrated and seen, and for them to show the love right back, is astonishing.
“This is our love letter to North Wales and that letter is being received with love and appreciation, which is so fitting for Henry who, no doubt, would have loved the attention.”

Celyn, who describes himself as a passionate Welsh man and Anglesey boy, revealed in an interview with chief reporter Suzanne Kendrick that he would be returning to Anglesey in July for another film project, believed to be coming-of-age film – Mountain.
He said: “Madfabulous isn’t just a blip. I am coming back to Anglesey next month to direct another film.

“I can’t say what it is or where or who is in it, but what I can say is that it is a beautiful story with a fantastic cast.”
Dion Hughes, Cinema Co-ordinator at Pontio Arts Centre in June, said: “Madfabulous has drawn record-breaking crowds to Pontio Cinema in Bangor, surpassing even The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Super Mario Galaxy Movie to become our top-grossing film of 2026 at the cinema.
“Its popularity has prompted us to add extra screenings to meet demand. Seeing hundreds of local filmgoers fill our venue has filled us with pride and reaffirmed the enduring importance of cinema in our communities, even as others close across the UK.”
