Kim Kardashian’s Bizarre Tribute To Her Grandma MJ Has To Be Seen To Be Believed

On Thursday, Kris Jenner announced the heartbreaking news that her mom, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, had died at age 91.

Any longtime fan of the Kardashians would be aware of MJ, with the family matriarch often appearing on their various reality TV shows over the years, and being featured in photos across everyone’s social media accounts.And it was on Instagram that 70-year-old Kris shared the news with her followers, posting a portrait of her mom alongside the emotional caption: “Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ. 😞💔 There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye.”

“My mom was the heart of our family,” Kris went on. “She taught me everything that truly matters… to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted. She taught us that family is everything. She showed us how to love unconditionally and how to find joy in the little moments. She showed me how to face life’s challenges with resilience and faith.”

“Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every piece of wisdom you shared, and every moment you loved us so completely,” Kris added. “I will miss our daily talks, your smile, your laughter… Our hearts are broken, but we find comfort knowing that love like yours never truly leaves us. Your love will live on in our family, in our traditions, in every moment we are together, and in every life you touched. When I look at my kids and my grandkids, I will forever see pieces of you in all of us. There is not a part of me that isn’t shaped by you. And if I have done anything right in this world, it’s because I spent my life trying to live in a way that would make you proud.”“Every memory, every moment, every blessing, it was all because of you, and I will forever thank God every single day for making you my mommy,” the star emotionally concluded. “My heart is broken into a million pieces… thank you for giving me the greatest childhood and oh what a beautiful blessed life… I love you forever Mommy. Thank you for giving us everything. ❤️”While fans were, of course, incredibly sad to hear that MJ had passed, it was soon noticed that at around the same time that Kris posted her tribute, her daughter Kim Kardashian had posted a lighthearted Instagram carousel from her recent summer vacation with the caption “lake life.”As you can imagine, Kim was immediately called out for the insensitivity of the timing, given that her grandmother had just died, and the mom-of-four later explained that the post had been scheduled in advance. Explaining the situation, she wrote: “This post was scheduled a few days ago before we lost MJ, so its timing came right alongside her passing. I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week, and my heart is completely with my family right now. We love and miss her so deeply, and in the days ahead, we’ll be focusing on celebrating her beautiful life 🕊️🤍”

And celebrate her life she did, with Kim soon following up with her own tribute to MJ, sharing a whole bunch of throwback photos of herself with her grandmother as she paid sweet tribute in the caption. She wrote: “My sweet Grandma MJ, my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin… You taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we’ll carry with us forever!!!!!”“You were the woman who showed me what it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman,” Kim added. “You gave me my very first job at your store in San Diego and taught me lessons about work ethic, strength, and confidence that I’ve carried with me ever since. You always believed in me, championed me, and were my safe place. You truly were the matriarch of our family, and your love is woven into all of us. I know you’re at peace now. Give Papa Harry, Aunt Karen, and my dad a hug for me. You will always be a part of me, I love you soooooo much and I will miss you forever and ever. 🤍 YOU ARE THE BEST OF US!!!”Kim, 45, drew further attention to one of the more unorthodox photos in her carousel on her Instagram story, where she added some more information about the pic that has since caused a stir across social media.In the post, Kim shared a close-up photo of five feet, which she then labeled depending on who they belonged to: her own, Kris’s, MJ’s, and her sisters Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner’s. On her story, she wrote: “And for anyone that knows my grandma knows she had the most young beautiful feet in the world and she would want everyone to know lol.”

Needless to say, people had a lot of thoughts on this, with it not lost on them that beauty and youth were at the forefront of Kim’s mind as she mourned the loss of a close family member. One person wrote on a Reddit forum: “even w a ‘tribute’ she cant even hide her obsession w youth/beauty.”“you can’t get much more vapid and superficial,” somebody else wrote. One more asked : “This is what she remembers about her grandmother? Her feet?” While another added: “I can’t fathom posting feet pics on main as a tribute to a loved one. Wtf.”The sentiment was the same over on X, too, where an incredibly viral quote-tweet about the post simply reads: “They are trapped in a prison of their own making.” Another adds: “Kim Kardashian is really so beauty centered/borderline vain, it’s going to be interesting see her age in her 60s/70s/80s! God willing.”And the foot photo isn’t the only part of Kim’s MJ tribute to have raised eyebrows, with the star also being called out after she shared a text message that she’d received from her grandmother, which read: “Praying my 10 great grandbabies can help fix this poor planet in time and find solutions to climate change and pollution to stop the destruction of this gorgeous earth and have a high purpose for this important moment in time.”

As I am sure you are aware, the Kardashian-Jenner family are pretty renowned for their private jet usage, with Kylie even being branded a “climate criminal” in the past for how often she uses her jet. Private planes are, of course, a huge contributor to environmental damage and climate change. The sisters are also known for using AI regularly, with Kim previously being roasted after she shared her cringe-inducing conversation with ChatGPT.

Other regular backlash towards the family includes water usage in their gardens during droughts and wildfires, and their lavish parties that are shared on social media and feature a whole ton of balloons, plastic, and other waste.So, it’s pretty unsurprising that people had a lot of thoughts about MJ’s text, with a popular Reddit response reading: “the irony of asking your grandchildren to help with climate change when they all take private jets everywhere 😭” One more wrote: “granny your genetic line is made up of dozens of climate criminals that actively make the world a worse place.”“Was she being facetious because literally how,” somebody else asked, while another added: “Was MJ not aware her grand daughters own private planes or maybe she wasn’t aware the meaning of protecting the environment.”
