Celebrity couples brought plenty of shade to the 2026 World Cup final on Sunday, though they did not always agree on how much frame was enough.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z coordinated in fine metal sunglasses. Victoria Beckham went in the opposite direction, disappearing behind oversize black acetate, while Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet held firm to the compact frames that were supposedly being dethroned by summer’s bug-eye comeback.
Together, the couples put the season’s competing eyewear movements in the same stands. Oversize acetate has returned with scale and personality, while lighter metal frames offer a sharper alternative. Small black ’90s-inspired shapes, however, have not accepted defeat quite yet.

Beyoncé paired oval Prada sunglasses with a custom LaQuan Smith look built around a sheer white lace capri catsuit and a cropped cream coat with broad lapels and a belted waist. The sunglasses’ fine metal construction and reflective lenses added shine without introducing another heavy shape alongside her voluminous curls and oversize gold earrings.
Jay-Z stayed in the same material family. He wore thin gold-tone sunglasses with rounded navigator-style lenses, adding a New York Yankees cap and a dark striped shirt. The two frames were not identical, but the fine metal and warm hardware made the coordination clear.
David and Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham made no attempt at subtlety. She wore oversize black rectangular sunglasses from her own line, with a broad flat top, heavily tinted lenses and gold-tone detailing visible along the temples.
The frame stretched from her brows toward her cheekbones, supplying most of the drama in an otherwise pale look made up of a white sleeveless top, blush trousers and a brown belt. David Beckham attended in a navy suit without sunglasses. Although he operates an eyewear label of his own, Victoria handled the sunglasses statement at the final.

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade agreed on black acetate, then split over the proportions. Union wore Ray-Ban’s RB4457D sunglasses, a polished black pillow-shaped design with dark gray lenses. The curved frame sat close to the face and brought a softer shape to her dark denim jacket and matching trousers.
Wade went substantially larger in broad rectangular sunglasses with a slightly wrapped profile, pairing them with a sleeveless black shirt, jeans and a bucket hat. The exact model was not confirmed, though Wade is hardly new to imposing eyewear: he has previously fronted multiple Versace Eyewear campaigns.
Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso

Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso coordinated through warm lenses instead. Barroso supported her native Argentina in a cropped team jersey, matching scarf and bucket hat with low-rise white jeans. Her oversize metal sunglasses combined amber lenses with an aviator-shield shape that extended broadly across her face.
Damon wore a navy knit polo, jeans and squared navigator sunglasses with brown gradient lenses and a double bridge. Side by side, their frames had the same warm tint without looking particularly alike.

The smaller end of the sunglasses spectrum had its own power couples.
Jenner wore Otra’s Eyewear’s Hazel sunglasses, a narrow black rounded cat-eye style that reads closer to an oval from the front. She paired them with a black sleeveless top while Timothée Chalamet wore a blue Adidas long-sleeve shirt paired with compact oval sunglasses with dark amber-brown lenses and a slim black frame.
Jenner’s choice was notable less than a month after Jenner collaborated with Meta on a slim oval pair of smart glasses inspired by her personal style. At the final, she skipped the technology but kept the silhouette.

Cruz Beckham also stayed relatively compact. He paired a white graphic T-shirt with black rectangular sunglasses that appeared to have warmer brown or tortoiseshell coloring along the temples. His partner, Jackie Apostel, provided the color in a plunging red halter dress and went without frames.
Jessica Alba and Danny Ramirez

Jessica Alba took the black rectangle in a sportier direction. Her sunglasses had a gently curved profile and dark lenses, worn with a black sleeveless top. Danny Ramirez, seated beside her in a white graphic T-shirt, also left the eyewear to his partner.
Hailey and Justin Bieber

The trend debate continued after the final, when Justin and Hailey Bieber stepped out in New York City following his halftime performance.
Following the tease of an unreleased Matter Daddy sneaker during his World Cup halftime performance, Justin wore black sunglasses from his Skylrk line with a white dotted hoodie, long green T-shirt and dark baggy jeans. His heavily curved, “Matrix”-adjacent frame, paired with his $19,795 Logan Hollowell Reverse Water Drop pavé diamond stuggies on his lobes, delivered one of the night’s more futuristic and luxurious takes on the oversize revival.
Hailey went in the exact opposite direction. She wore small black oval sunglasses with a cranberry red floral slipdress trimmed in dark lace and kitten-heel flip-flops. Narrow black frames have long been a recurring piece in her wardrobe, even as buggier frames threaten a comeback.
There was no single winning frame at the World Cup final. Victoria Beckham and Justin Bieber went big. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Jay-Z, Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso kept metal firmly in play. Kylie Jenner, Timothée Chalamet, Hailey Bieber and Gabrielle Union held onto compact shapes that were not nearly as dethroned as predicted.
