Robbie Williams has been open about his struggles with substance abuse. The topic was explored in his 2023 Netflix docuseries, and he now boasts 25 years of sobriety. But a video has gone viral of a white substance falling from his face onto a microphone during a World Cup interview, and the British singer acknowledged the controversy.
The interview was with German broadcaster MagentaTV and occurred after he performed at the tournament’s closing ceremony at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Sunday (July 19). People online began speculating that it was cocaine, whereas others (with better eyesight) pointed out that it had fallen from his mouth and was likely a mint.
In a video posted today, Williams said he wanted to apologize: “It was deeply unprofessional and people worried about me. But it’s OK, because I had several more!” He then stuck out his tongue to reveal mints. The caption reads, “Just woke up and feeling…. Mint.” Watch below.
