Writing in The Sunday Times, the Diddly Squat star said that while he had learnt about how “it’s surprisingly pleasant to be pleasant”, he branded it “exhausting”.

After revealing his prostate cancer diagnosis on Clarkson’s Farm, the 66-year-old says he briefly considered becoming kinder, enjoying letters from well‑wishers and talks of knighthood.
But that soft image was short lived after the BBC Springwatch legend Chris Packham hit out at Diddly Squat Farm near Chipping Norton in Oxford on Gogglebox, accusing the Amazon Prime show’s opening credits of of misrepresenting modern agriculture.
Mr Clarkson then took to The Sun, calling his opinion “b******s”, stating he know what the Oxfordshire holding looks like as he spent the day “foraging and bird watching” in his woods in 2012.

In his new “age of tolerance and respect” he has acknowledged that he “shouldn’t have done that” and should have instead “kept schtum”.
While he says he has loved the last few weeks of “not being in trouble for anything” he says keeping this persona up is “unrealistic”.
He said: “Being seen as a nice person rather than a troublemaker was just so… relaxing.
“But if you’re someone like me, who’s spent his life throwing rocks in ponds to watch the ripples it creates, it’s bloody difficult.”
