Blockbuster season is certainly heating up following the release of The Odyssey, but we only have just over a week to wait for the return of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits the big screen.

The fourth entry in the superhero series sees Peter Parker (Tom Holland) attempt to rebuild his life following the devastating events of 2021’s No Way Home, where the memories of his loved ones were wiped.

It remains to be seen if Peter can reconnect with MJ and Ned, but we do have some indication that it will be a lengthy tale, with the runtime confirmed to be approximately 145 minutes – or 2 hours and 25 minutes – long (via BBFC).

This makes it the second-longest Spider-Man film, with No Way Home being marginally lengthier at 148 minutes. Homecoming and Far from Home, the first two instalments in the series, were 133 and 129 minutes long respectively.

The certification has also been confirmed, with Brand New Day having a 12a rating. As per the BBFC, the film contains moderate violence, threat, injury detail and implied strong language.

Though Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are reprising their respective roles, there is some change behind the scenes, with Destin Daniel Cretton taking over from Jon Watts as director.

There are also plenty of other cast members, with Michael Mando, Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal reprising their respective roles as Scorpion, Hulk and Punisher. Tramell Tillman, meanwhile, will portray Bill Metzger.

One notable addition is Sadie Sink, though it hasn’t been confirmed who the Stranger Things star will be playing. With her red hair and the fact that Marvel has assumed control of the X-Men franchise, it is widely assumed that she’s playing Jean Grey.

Producer Amy Pascal alluded to this by referencing one of the “worst-kept secrets” in Marvel history, where it became common knowledge that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would appear as Spider-Man in No Way Home.

“When we had the three Spideys in the last movie, it was the worst-kept secret in Hollywood. Everybody sort of pretended not to know, but knew,” said Pascal, who said that the production team has been “disciplined” in not revealing much.

“I think people love to be surprised. They don’t really want to know everything. They want the experience of what movies give you, which is shock, awe and surprise… I think that’s what the audience is craving,” she added.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released in UK cinemas on 29 July.
