Sacha Baron Cohen‘s secret Ali G movie, titled “Ali G: Who Iz I?”, has been officially unveiled by the comedian and Amazon MGM Studios. It will release in theaters Oct. 23. Cohen directed the movie, marking his feature directorial debut.
Cohen posted a video in on his Instagram, fully in character as Ali G, announcing the movie Wednesday. “Dey haz finally made a documentary about me,” he wrote in his exaggerated London rude boy slang. “And it ain’t dat crap one about da penguins, dis one haz got at least twice as much animal sex. ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’ Cominatcha on 10.23 wotever dat means.”
Cohen filmed the movie secretly, just like he did for his “Borat” comedy in 2006 and its 2020 sequel. He originated the Ali G character for Channel 4’s “The 11 O’Clock Show” in 1998 and reprised the fictional Londoner in his own “Da Ali G Show” in the early 2000s. Cohen starred as the character in the 2002 film “Ali G Indahouse,” directed by Mark Mylod.
Like his Borat character, Cohen interviews people on the street as Ali G and often gets himself into hilarious and cringe-worthy situations with unknowing victims. He’s interviewed the likes of Noam Chomsky, Andy Rooney and Newt Gingrich, who were all bewildered by the fake character.
Outside of Borat and Ali G, Cohen has recently appeared in the Marvel Disney+ series “Ironheart,” playing the demon Mephisto. He’s also starred in the 2026 comedies “Ladies First” and “Balls Up.” He earned an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay in 2020 for his “Borat Subsequent Movie Film” sequel after nabbing one for the first “Borat.” He was up for best supporting actor in 2021 for “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
