Casualty has announced the show’s huge 40th anniversary plans with a new teaser trailer, giving a first look at the dramatic feature length episode set to air this September.
The long-running medical drama is celebrating four decades on our screens, and to mark this impressive milestone, the BBC has confirmed a special double-bill episode that will air on Saturday, 5 September – almost exactly 40 years to the day since the first-ever instalment aired.

This means that, following the conclusion of the current boxset ‘Lethal Legacy’, there will be a few weeks without Casualty on TV. However, the glimpse of what’s to come this September suggests that it will be well worth the wait.
The anniversary event, which will introduce an exciting new chapter of Casualty, centres around a high-stakes major incident that throws Holby into complete chaos. With lives hanging in the balance, the ED team are pushed to their limits – and a major rescue operation requires life or death decisions.
Featured in these episodes is Dylan (Will Beck) who battles a personal tragedy while leading the team through a dark day, while Stevie (Elinor Lawless) and Flynn (Olly Rix) fight for survival in a race across time.

It’s a true ensemble piece, and the double bill will feature the entire current cast, including Melanie Hill (Siobhan), Barney Walsh (Cam), Neet Mohan (Rash), Sammy Dobson (Nicole), Kirsty Mitchell (Faith), Anna Chell (Jodie), Sarah Seggari (Rida) and Aron Julius (Matty).
The paramedic team are also at the heart of the action, with the episodes also starring Di Botcher (Jan), Michael Stevenson (Iain), Milo Clarke (Teddy), Charles Venn (Jacob) and Naomi Wakszlak (Indie).
A thrilling new teaser trailer, titled ‘Life Begins At 40’, is soundtracked by children singing happy birthday to their dad – we reckon that this is Flynn’s daughters, and it’s very plausible that the current clinical lead could be turning 40 alongside the show itself.

There is a huge explosion in the opening seconds of the short clip, as Flynn watches on in horror from a bridge looking incredibly panicked.
Jan and the paramedics are under pressure with serious emergencies reported all over the area, while in the ED Rida seems to be involved in an altercation in the hospital, and Dylan worryingly breaks down in tears.
The trailer ends with armed police approaching the ED, and what looks like an ambulance submerged in water. One thing’s for certain, this will be a birthday to remember…
Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
