Zendaya’s full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman; however, she has consciously made the decision to go only by her first name in the industry. Over the years, the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ star has talked about her name and its roots on multiple occasions, and has even revealed why she only goes by her first name. In an old interview with Allure, the actress had commented that “I [dropped my last name because I] just thought it was cool, like Cher or Prince.” She has also revealed that her managers’ suggestion when she was 12 also made her go by her first name in the industry.
While in conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress had detailed what her name meant in the first place. She had shared at the time that, “I have my African first name. I have a middle name that is [my mom’s] middle name, which is French, but we did an African spelling. So, it’s literally me in a name. And then you have Stoermer, and then you have Coleman. I literally have a timeline in history in my name.”
