On the Sea will be shown at Storyhouse in Chester, with writer-director Helen Walsh and actor Celyn Jones set to attend the event on August 9 at 5.30pm.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A hosted by Empire’s Jordan King.
Nicky Beaumont, head of cinema at Storyhouse, said: “Storyhouse is delighted to welcome Helen Walsh for a Q&A.
“Helen’s first feature, The Violators, was screened here in the year we opened, so it’s great for her to be here with her second film.”
Filmed on location in North Wales and across Ynys Môn (Anglesey), On the Sea tells the story of Jack, a hand raker on the mussel beds, and his complex relationships with his wife Maggie, his brother Dyfan, and his reluctant son Tom.
When an itinerant deckhand named Daniel arrives and confesses his feelings for Jack, tensions rise and he is faced with a life-altering decision.
The film has been described by critics as “a masterclass in powerful storytelling,” “a stirring, windblown romance,” and “frank, sensitive and shot throughout with genuine feeling.”
The cast includes Barry Ward, Lorne MacFadyen, Henry Lawfull, Liz White, Danny Webb, and Celyn Jones as Dyfan.
Mr Jones recently visited Storyhouse with his directing debut Madfabulous.
On the Sea will screen at Storyhouse Cinema from August 9 to August 13, with tickets for the director Q&A screening available from £8.90 for Storyhouse members.
