Prince George is no stranger to a public royal appearance these days. Whether it’s visiting an RAF base with his mum,attending a VE Day lunch at a Palace, or watching Trooping the Colour, he is becoming very well acquainted with it all.
However, his latest royal appearance last weekend was more significant than we might have given it credit for. Not only was it the first time we had publicly seen him since he turned 13 – the start of his teenage life – but it is also possibly the last time we will see him before he begins a whole new era of his life. Now, that makes me feel old.
This is because George’s attendance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with his parents and siblings on Saturday could be the last time we see him before he starts at Eton College.
It is just over a month until George walks into the same prestigious school as his father did all those years ago.
And not only is he simply starting at a new school, but he is going to experience a major life change too as he will wave goodbye to living at home with his parents and, instead, become a boarding student.
I mean, time really does go quick, right?
So, while Saturday’s family outing in Glasgow was very sweet to witness, it was also significant.

And I like Prince William and Princess Catherine brought their children to this event to let us see them as a family unit again one more time before this big move takes place for George in September.
A move that the family will no doubt spend the next few weeks preparing for together. And a move that, while scary, is believed to be something George is excited for.
With his father’s stories and fond memories at Eton ringing in George’s ears, the journey ahead probably feels special and surreal for the young prince. And I think, as his latest public appearances show, that he is more than confident enough to take this next step and enjoy every moment of it.
As no more public appearances are now expected of George until before his Eton journey begins, all we can do is wish the prince a happy summer and a great start at his new school.
Both him and his parents should be proud of the confident royal he is becoming.
