Some pregnant people might take a 100-degree forecast in Los Angeles as a sign to cancel their plans and spend the day with air-conditioning and whichever reality show soothes their spirit. But not Anne Hathaway. She puts her hair up in a ponytail, steps into her best low-rise jeans, and gets to work.
Following three back-to-back press tours (Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, and The Odyssey) and pregnant with her third child, Hathaway kicked off the rollout for The End of Oak Street last night in L.A. in a crop top and low-slung jeans. Specifically, a custom Prabal Gurung high-low halter top made of sky-blue silk with a train that hit the floor and a front hem curving just above her belly button. Her low-rise denim was La Ligne’s Jenny, which typically comes with a drawstring tie at the waist that appears to have been removed.

Hathaway and her stylist, Erin Walsh, have been working together since 2019, when the actress was pregnant with her second child, so this is not their first I’m pregnant but have red carpets to walk rodeo. But celebrity maternity style has changed drastically in the seven years since Hathaway was last pregnant on a press tour — a bump-first fashion revolution rebranded the category of “maternity clothes” from roomy dresses and elastic waists into whatever the hell you want to wear. Rihanna, who wore skin-tight Alaïa on the cover of Vogue and custom Marc Jacobs at the Met Gala while capital-P Pregnant, is largely to credit as the pioneer. Sienna Miller, Jennifer Lawrence, and Hailey Bieber have also done their part in ripping up the rule book of what to wear when you’re expecting.
And now, we have Hathaway’s peek-a-bump low-rise jeans. Considering she has another film coming out to promo later this fall, Verity, this is likely only the first of many fantastic outfits engineered around her belly. But just know, Annie, if you wake up one day in the coming weeks and it’s a sweats-and-grubby-old-tee type of day, we accept and salute you.
