Doom's eyes glaring from his mask in Avengers: Doomsday

    Marvel Studios

Every two years, the biggest Disney fans gather together to celebrate all things associated with the Mouse House. The Anaheim Convention Center hosts all kinds of panels and booths, but the main attraction happens on Friday night at the Honda Center. This is where the Disney Entertainment Showcase takes place and the studio showcases everything it has coming down the pipeline from all of its major brands, including Disney Animation, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios.

In past years, Disney has announced new cast members for upcoming projects, shown exclusive trailers, and brought out Hollywood’s brightest stars to build up hype for Disney’s slate of films and TV shows. Anticipation is high for what Disney might reveal this year. Will we get a full X-Men movie cast announcement? Will Pixar unveil “Cars 4” or some new original project? Anything can happen, and you’ll want your screen firmly here for the remainder of the evening.

The Disney Entertainment Showcase will begin at 7:00 p.m. PT. Our coverage will begin two hours before. Looper’s Mike Bedard will reporting live from the Honda Center, updating here all evening long.

We’re Live! New posts will appear automatically.

    Samara Weaving is Emma Frost.

    Christopher Abbott is Charles Xavier.

“X-Men” will arrive in theaters May 5, 2028.

“X-Men” director Jake Schreier takes the stage.

They’re here to talk about the X-Men movie where Sadie Sink will be playing Jean Grey.

Sadie Sink joins Kevin Feige onstage.

Speical look at “Doomsday.” Sue Storm narrating how Doctor Doom used to be different, he used to be kind and caring. But then, everything he loved was taken from him.

Reed yelling at Doom about untold destruction he’s caused. We get the shot of Doom topping Thor’s attack with Stormbreaker again and then making a bunch of Sentinels rise.

    “For I am … Doom!”

Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell take the stage.

Not a confirmation Jackman’s in it, but maybe “Avengers: Secret Wars” …

“Avengers: Doomsday” coming to theaters on December 18.

Video of Hugh Jackman getting scolded by Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) to talk to Kevin Feige and wondering if “Avengers: Doomsday” could use some help rounding out its cast. Basically, making his pitch for Wolverine to be in the movie.

“Avengers: Endgame Encore” coming to theaters in September, which is basically “Endgame” with some extra footage.

And now, a trailer for Insomniac’s “Wolverine” game coming to PS5.

A lot of footage of Wolverine riding on motorcycles and fighting bad guys like Sabretooth.

    Showing trailer for “VisionQuest.”

Vision is working at a bar. He reminisces about his time with Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), and he powers down in the freezer locker where he’s White Vision. He escapes into his own mind into a virtual reality.

He watches old movies of his time as an Avenger. Ultron also exists in his mind and he’s scolded for not being in his human visage. And there’s the revelation that Vision has a son out there.

“VisionQuest” will focus on Vision’s central question as to who he is. What is his purpose? And Ultron will join him as they figure out humanity together.

James Spader will star on “VisionQuest” as Ultron … in the flesh.

Feige is introducing “VisionQuest,” coming to Disney+ on October.

Kevin Feige walking onstage. Get ready for some big announcements!

“Lion” will stream on Disney+ on August 20.

“Lion” will follow a young cub coming of age within his pride. And the documentary will have music from Hans Zimmer.

Jon Favreau segues into “Lion,” a National Geographic project he also worked on. Because he directed 2019’s live-action “Lion King” that made over $1 billion. Isn’t that crazy? Like, it’s wild it made that much money. Anyway, “Lion” is probably very educational.

Showing a teaser for “Oswald.” Combination of animation and live-action where Oswald is running around the Disney building, landing in Walt Disney’s old office. He looks around in awe at all the various knick-knacks before playing a little bit of “Wish Upon a Star” on the piano.

They only used hand-drawn 2D animation for “Oswald,” which is probably the best news we could’ve gotten from this series. And they literally brought back animators who specialized in the medium to work on the show.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit pre-dates Mickey the Mouse, and Walt Disney actually lost the rights to the character. Several years ago, Disney got the rights back, and they’re bringing him into the big time.

“Oswald” is coming to Disney+ this February as a three-part miniseries.

Favreau is announcing a personal project — Oswald the Rabbit.

    Kathryn Hahn introduces Jon Favreau.

Video message from Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, who are on-location in Spain and can’t be here in-person.

Teaser for the live-action “Tangled,” ending with Kathryn Hahn’s glorious laugh as Mother Gothel.

The people love Kathryn Hahn. As they should.

“The Greatest Showman: The Musical” will premiere in London Spring 2027 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

And now, a live performance from “The Greatest Showman: The Musical.”

Sneak Peek: Scrat tries to get said acorn, but when he tries to bury it, it’s way too hot, alluding to the “Boiling Point” of it all. We then see Scrat and Baby(?) Scrat traverse magma to get the acorn. Scrat has trouble with the magma. Baby Scrat doesn’t.

It’ll be in theaters February 2027.

“Ice Age: Boiling Point” will see the main characters visit unknown corners of the lost world.

Scrat will be back to kick off the film. You’d think eventually he could get ahold of an acorn. They shouldn’t be that difficult to track down.

Denis Leary and Queen Latifah take the stage for “Ice Age: Boiling Point.”

They’ve brought out giant red balloons and are encouraging the audience to keep them in the air.

“The Bluey Movie” up next with a teaser trailer.

Bluey and Bingo bounce a red balloon up into the air, all in glorious 3D animation. And they’re devastated once the balloon hits the grass, where it promptly pops. Adorable, cute, everything you could want from a Bluey movie.

New cast members onstage now performing.

Jonas Brothers taking to the stage to discuss “Camp Rock 3.”

New set of campers who will compete for a chance to open for Connect 3.

First look at “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Season 3.

Get ready for gods, monsters, and a giant moving statue.

Andra Day, who will play Athena, and Ming Na-Wen, who will play Hera, have joined series star Walker Scobell onstage.

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is up next. A giant trident has materialized over the crowd.

“Romy and Michele 2” is happening. Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino have taken the stage.

The sequel will follow the titular duo owning a boutique in Beverly Hills but wondering if it’s time to try to find true love.

“Lilo & Stitch 2” comes out in the summer of 2028, and there will be another experiment entering the fold. A pink one who’s probably Angel, aka Experiment 624.

Ke Huy Quan and Gennifer Goodwin have now brought on Maia Kealoha, who plays Lilo in the live-action “Lilo & Stitch.” Stitch appears on screen and is causing mayhem. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Another sneak peek of “Gatto.” A proper trailer this time. There’s a great bit where Nero has to make nonsense cat sounds to see Rocco (Lawrence Fishburne). Really fleshes out the world about what it means to be a cat in Venice, Italy. Rocco is the main cat in charge everyone tries to please while a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black” plays.

They’re showing a clip from “Gatto,” about the main cat, Nero (voiced by Mark Ruffalo), trying to get a violin with a cat’s head carved into the handle from a musician. He recruits a pigeon to aid him on this quest, who dive bombs toward hte musician only to whip right past and slam into a sign.

Pixar just showed off a teaser for “Ghost Market.” Little kid named Kyle (who’s a content creator) enters a market and wants to take some ramen until a mysterious force startles him. And then the kid films some footage about how the movie will be about some hungry ghosts and will arrive in theaters in spring 2028.

And there’s going to be “Kingdom Hearts: The Series,” coming to Disney+.

“Coco” is coming to “Kingdom Hearts IV.” The crowd is losing it.

Just revealed: the world of Coco will be coming to KINGDOM HEARTS IV, launching in late 2027. pic.twitter.com/sMSik4cBGc

    — Pixar (@Pixar) August 15, 2026

“Coco 2” will come out in November 2029.

Benjamin Bratt will be back as Cruz. “Coco 2” picks up a few years after the first. Miguel is now a teen, and people are screaming at how adorable he looks.

And we’ll be returning to the Land of the Dead in “Coco 2.” Adrian Molina and Lee Unkrich are back directing.

Benjamin Bratt, the voice of Ernesto de la Cruz, has taken the stage.

And there will be a new threat in “Incredibles 3.” Before we can find it who it is, the feed gets interrupted by Edna Mode.

“The Incredibles 3” is coming out in the summer of 2028. Of course, “Incredibles 2” ended with supers now legal, and in the third movie, it’s the kids who will get the bulk of attention.

Pete Docter takes the stage to commemorate 40 years of Pixar.

Pixar is next. They’re celebrating the release of “Hoppers” and “Toy Story 5.” But what’s to come?

It was an extended sequence (with unfinished animation) of Homer Simpson at a Springfield Isotopes game when a player hits a foul ball. He and a horde of men go on a long chase trying to get the ball as it rolls through Springfield. Through Moe’s, through the Duff Brewery. And then at the very end, it rolls right in front of Bart Simpson, who grabs it, causing Homer and everyone else to yell “D’oh!”

We’re getting a sneak peek of “The New Simpsons Movie.” Dana Walden is saying it’s “very rough,” but we’ll see.

    Walden introduces Bart Simpson.

Anna Hathaway just introduced Dana Walden, president and CCO of The Walt Disney Company.

Hathaway just said she wants to get “The Princess Diaries 3” right, but Julie Andrews seems pretty firm on not returning, so who knows if that’ll ever happen. But it’s definitely not happening now.

Anne Hathaway is taking the stage. She will be dubbed a “Disney Legend” at this year’s D23. We’re not entirely sure what that means, but Hathaway deserves all of the accolades. So we’re all for it!

Josh D’Amaro got a much warmer reception than Bob Chapek at 2022 D23. Looper was also in attendance that year, and it was … awkward.

The showcase will be hosted by Ke Huy Quan and Gennifer Goodwin of “Zootopia 2” fame.

Dancers are performing to a medley of songs, including “Zoo” by Shakira and “You Got a Friend in Me” by Paul Newman.

They’re playing an opening montage of clips from various Disney properties, including a shot of a doomsday clock striking midnight…

The lights have dimmed. The showcase is about to begin!

They’re doing the wave … the last resort of a DJ stalling for time.

The Disney Entertainment Showcase is running a few minutes late. Standby…

Fun Fact: The Honda Center is where the Anaheim Ducks play. They were previously The Mighty Ducks based on the popular Disney film, and Disney owned the team until selling them in 2005.

Honestly, they should tease “The New Simpsons Movie” by parodying the trailer for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” but with Spider-Pig. This marketing campaign writes itself.

And then, there’s the big Mouse House itself. What could Disney Animation have cooking for the big presentation?

The main hall of the Anaheim Convention Center had displays of Anna and Elsa for “Frozen 3,” so we could get a trailer there. More than anything, Disney will probably want to hype up its upcoming “Hexed,” which lands later this year.

Earlier at D23, “Zootopia” director Jared Bush teased a Mickey Mouse project that many are speculating could be a new Mickey movie … potentially with 2D animation as opposed to 3D that’s become standard across Disney. Take it with a grain of salt for the time being. Don’t want to over-promise and under-deliver when the main presentation starts, but suffice it to say, that news would bring the house down.

Pixar has plenty in the works. There’s the original film “Gatto” coming out next year as well as sequels like “The Incredibles 3” and “Coco 2” that could get updates.

Fun fact: “The Incredibles 3” was formally announced at 2024 D23, so we’re sorely due for an update there. But it was also unveiled on August 13 that Pixar would announce an original film at the showcase, too. It’s unclear if that will be “Ono Ghost Market,” which was revealed earlier this year and is set for a 2028 release, or something else entirely.

Speaking of franchises that will never die, “The Simpsons” have a new movie coming out on September 3, 2027 — “The New Simpsons Movie.”

Get ready for… The New Simpsons Movie (I guess a third one would be called The Newest Simpsons Movie) #d23 pic.twitter.com/WscUHWiJjG

    — Mike Bedard (@TheMikeBedard) August 14, 2026

There was a “Simpsons” panel earlier in the day, but they didn’t offer anything in the way of sequel news. They did show a full new episode, titled “Yellow Mirror,” that will drop on Disney+ on August 28. They also showed stills from the upcoming 38th season of the long-running animated sitcom.

And for all of you gamers, Matt Groening also may have accidentally let slip that “The Simpsons: Hit & Run” could return in some form, but current showrunner Matt Selman was quick to shut that down. Still, 20th Century Studios will likely have some kind of presence, and we’d expect “The New Simpsons Movie” to be a cornerstone of their presentation.

The DJ just asked who’s a fan of Disney, and it would be really funny if there’s a grade-A Disney hater in the crowd who spent a boatload of money to come to this thing just to boo all of the announcements.

    — Mike Bedard (@TheMikeBedard) August 15, 2026

Star Wars should have plenty for the presentation as well. We wouldn’t be surprised to get trailers for “Ahsoka” Season 2 and next year’s “Starfighter.”

“Ahsoka” Season 2 is set to star:

    Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano)
    Natasha Liu Bordizzo (Sabine Wren)
    Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera Syndulla)
    Ivanna Sakhno (Shin Hati)
    Eman Esfandi (Ezra Bridger)
    Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker)
    Lars Mikkelsen (Grand Admiral Thrawn)
Rory McCann (Baylan Skoll, taking over the role from the late, great Ray Stevenson)
    Jeryl Prescott Gallien as Aktropaw
    Jane Edwina Seymour as Lakesis

“Starfighter,” directed by Shawn Levy has also assembled an all-star cast, including the likes of Ryan Gosling, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams, Daniel Ings, Simon Bird, and Jamael Westman.

2027 also marks the 50th anniversary of the 1977 release of “Star Wars” the movie that started it all! It was previously announced that there were be a limited theatrical rerelease of “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” on February 19. We could get a trailer that removes of all those CGI additions that have plagued cuts of the film for the past several decades.

And, of course, all things lead to… Doom. San Diego Comic-Con showcased a new “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer, so there’s a chance we’ll see that again or perhaps some new footage. If nothing else, at least a few of the cast members should grace us with their presence. The confirmed “Avengers: Doomsday” cast currently includes:

Robert Downey Jr. (Victor Von Doom / Doctor Doom)
    Chris Evans (Steve Rogers)
    Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm / Invisible Woman)
Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic)
Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm / The Thing)
Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm / Human Torch)
Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Captain America)
Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier)
Letitia Wright (Shuri / Black Panther)
Paul Rudd (Scott Lang / Ant-Man)
Wyatt Russell (John Walker / U.S. Agent)
    Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor)
    Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
    Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova)
Lewis Pullman (Bob Reynolds / Sentry)
Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres / Falcon)
David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian)
    Winston Duke (M’Baku)
Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr / Ghost)
    Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X)
Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto)
Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler)
Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkhölme / Mystique)
James Marsden (Scott Summers / Cyclops)
Channing Tatum (Remy LeBeau / Gambit)
Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy / Beast)

Marvel should also have a trailer for us for the upcoming “VisionQuest.” The closing chapter of the “WandaVision” trilogy, which also includes “Agatha All Along,” comes out on Disney+ on October 14 and has the following cast:

    Paul Bettany (Vision)
    James Spader (Ultron)
    Todd Stashwick (Paladin)
    Ruaridh Mollica (Tommy Maximoff)
    T’Nia Miller (Jocasta)
    Emily Hampshire (E.D.I.T.H.)
    Orla Brady (F.R.I.D.A.Y.)
    Henry Lewis (D.U.M.-E)
    Jonathan Sayer (U)
    James D’Arcy (J.A.R.V.I.S.)

Considering the show comes out two months from today, Marvel better get a move-on promoting this thing. So we feel extremely confident in saying a trailer is imminent.

X-Men fans were left high and dry for San Diego Comic-Con, but all eyes are on D23 for the official roster of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men movie.

Here are the confirmed cast members so far:

    Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
    Samara Weaving as Emma Frost

And various sources have reported that Kit Connor will most likely be our new Cyclops.

Christopher Abbott is heavily rumored to be the new Professor X. And Adam Driver may be returning to his villainous roots (following his turn as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy) as either Mister Sinister or Sebastian Shaw (again, all allegedly).

Jayme Lawson has long been the favorite amongst fans to get cast as Storm, but recently, Suzy Bemba of “Poor Things” has been floated as another possibility.

And the popular theory is that Charles Melton was the frontrunner for Beast, but it’s unclear if that’s a done-deal yet. Should all make for some excellent surprises when Marvel takes the stage…

Reminder: The Disney Entertainment Showcase is a two-hour presentation chronicling all things Disney. Major properties like Marvel and Star Wars will be relatively small components, so it won’t be a full Marvel panel like what we had at Comic-Con, but here’s a rough idea of what to expect throughout the evening…
