Queen Elizabeth was the beloved matriarch of her royal family. Her grandchildren, with whom she was very close, continue to honor their relationship as their families grow and they welcome daughters into the world — many of whom have been named for the late Queen.

Following her death on Sept. 8, 2022, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie gave tribute to their “beloved grannie” in a statement that read, in part, “You were our matriarch, our guide, our loving hand on our backs leading us through this world.”

They continued, “You taught us so much and we will cherish those lessons and memories forever. For now dear Grannie, all we want to say is thank you. Thank you for making us laugh, for including us, for picking heather and raspberries, for marching soldiers, for our teas, for comfort, for joy. You, being you, will never know the impact you have had on our family and so many people around the world.”

Unlike the rest of his cousins, Prince Harry opted for a slightly different moniker when naming his daughter after the Queen. Harry and wife Meghan Markle welcomed Lilibet Diana on June 4, 2021.

Lilibet was a nickname given to Queen Elizabeth as a child by her family members. When Prince Philip died in April of 2021, the Queen placed a handwritten note on top of his coffin and signed it from “Lilibet.” Philip was believed to be the last person in the Queen’s life to call her by that name.
